Collectible Motorcar of Atlanta is proud to present this 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback, a performance-built example of one of the most recognizable and desirable body styles from the original Mustang era. Finished in a vivid orange exterior with black lower-body stripes, this Mustang combines unmistakable mid-1960s styling with a carefully selected collection of drivetrain upgrades.
The exterior retains the defining features that make the 2+2 Fastback so distinctive, including its sweeping roofline, recessed rear glass, sculpted quarter panels, and functional-looking rear quarter louvers. The bright orange finish is accented by black rocker stripes, polished rocker moldings, chrome bumpers, dual exhaust outlets, and traditional Mustang badging.
Up front, the car features a GT-style grille with integrated fog lights and the signature running-horse emblem. A 289 badge remains mounted on the front fender, and the engine is presented with a matching 289-style air-cleaner assembly. These pieces provide a period appearance, although the drivetrain is represented as a built 302ci combination.
Styled steel wheels with black centers and polished outer rims reinforce the Mustang's vintage performance character. They are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, giving the car a period-correct muscle-car appearance while providing more modern radial-tire road manners.
Under the hood is a built 302 cubic-inch Ford V8 producing approximately 420 horsepower. The engine is equipped with Edelbrock Performer aluminum cylinder heads and a matching Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. A Holley 650 CFM carburetor handles fuel delivery, while an MSD electronic ignition system provides a stronger and more reliable spark.
The engine compartment retains a traditional Ford appearance with a red 289-style air cleaner, polished valve covers, red ignition wiring, and a black-painted engine bay. Export-style shock-tower bracing and a polished front support brace add rigidity while contributing to the purposeful presentation.
Full-length stainless-steel headers feed a 2.5-inch dual-exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. This combination gives the Mustang the deep, aggressive exhaust note expected from a built small-block Ford while allowing the engine to breathe more efficiently.
Power is transferred through a desirable Ford Toploader four-speed manual transmission. The floor-mounted shifter is positioned within the full-length factory-style center console, creating the direct and mechanical driving experience enthusiasts expect from an early Mustang.
A heavy-duty Currie 9-inch Ford rear end provides the strength needed for the upgraded engine, while the multi-leaf rear suspension offers a durable and proven foundation. The underhood identification plate indicates a factory four-speed configuration, further complementing the car's performance-oriented character.
Inside, the Mustang features a clean black interior with front bucket seats, matching rear seating, black door panels, carpeting, and a full-length center console. The brushed trim running through the console adds contrast and preserves the classic 1960s cockpit appearance.
A wood-rim three-spoke steering wheel provides a period-inspired focal point for the cabin. Instrumentation includes the factory-style horizontal speedometer, a centrally mounted SunPro tachometer, and an auxiliary oil-pressure gauge mounted beneath the dash. Toggle switches positioned below the instrument panel add to the purposeful, driver-focused presentation.
The trunk compartment is neatly finished with fitted black carpeting, providing a cleaner and more complete appearance than the exposed painted metal found in many early Mustangs.
This 1966 Mustang offers the highly desirable Fastback body style with the performance equipment enthusiasts want: a built 302 V8, four-speed manual transmission, Currie 9-inch rear end, aluminum cylinder heads, upgraded ignition, long-tube headers, and Flowmaster exhaust.
With its bright orange finish, black striping, GT-style exterior details, styled steel wheels, black bucket-seat interior, and strong small-block drivetrain, this Mustang delivers an excellent combination of classic appearance, vintage driving character, and upgraded street performance.
