"1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
""Nassau Blue Corvettes are seen by many as a rare and unique color for Corvettes. The mid tone blue color was produced on Corvettes during the 1965 and 1966 model years for the 2nd generation Corvettes and then returned with the introduction of the 5th generation in 1997 and continued through the 2000 model year. During the 1965 & 1966 production years, Nassau Blue was the most popular color with a little over 6,000 for each year."". Thx to Corvetteblogger.com
For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title verified 92,183 actual miles. This numbers matching example has been owned by our consignor since 2001 during which time power steering, a teak steering wheel, new soft top, tires, rear suspension rebuild and a battery have been added.
Exterior
Nassau of course is the capital city of the Bahamas and the water color is accurately depicted on this car. The Bahamas are home to 40 species of sharks and so it's fitting that this Sting Ray has a shark-like shape; pointed nose, side gills, and a streamlined tail. On this car, you have the fortunate choice of the color matched accessory hardtop or a stunning white canvas top with clear plastic window. 15-inch wheels with knock-off wheels are in place with 205/75R15 tires and an early 2023 date code. Metal work that includes windshield reveal, door handles, mirror, gas cap, emblems and the iconic side exhaust shields are all in immaculate condition. Imperfections are few and include scratches in the hardtop's glass, chips on the edge of the tonneau and rear fender, and light filler on the lower panel.
Interior
Blue is reserved for the inside too, fully immersing you in a sea of various shades beginning on the vinyl and plastic door panels that both present nicely. Over the polished door sill and perfect door jambs, we find bucket seats that are blue vinyl, low backed, and nicely stitched and padded. The teak 3 spoke steering wheel is posted on a black column leading to the infamous coved gauge cluster with symmetrical circles, two large units flanked by two small ones on each side. The plastic and gauge faces are in great condition, as is the center stack in Nassau blue and housing a rather elaborate analog clock and the vertically mounted AM/FM radio. The double hump dash repeats in front of the passenger with only the arched door of the glove box in front showing some slight patina. The center console also shows some age but the chrome ball shifter shines as bright as day one. Blue loop carpet fills the foot wells in good condition while the coverage under the tonneau shows a good bit of fading.
Drivetrain
Looking clean and original because it is! Here's the numbers matching 327ci V8 with 250 horsepower and a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, its partner for 61 years, the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission routing power to the rear axle with 3.70 gears, Positraction, showing a 1965 stamping.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, residual oil and clean, driver quality conditions are found underneath where the dual exhaust, of course, quickly heads east and west, exiting through side pipes. Disc brakes are on all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs in front and transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and a transverse leaf spring in back. This car is equipped with power steering.
Drive-Ability
And that power steering, along with the teakwood wheel, make the driving experience especially nice, the 327 providing great power and sound, and the brakes and tires working their way through turns with ease. All functions on this well kept Vette work as they should, and we return to the mall for its temporary residency. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is a beautiful collector grade show car representing a favored factory color. It's nearly impeccable and worthy of a look from discerning potential buyers. Surf's up on this Nassau Blue beauty; be sure to catch this wave!
