"1964 Harley Davidson FLH Duo-Glide Motorcycle
""The Harley-Davidson Duo-Glide marks a significant era in the Motor Company's history. The name Duo-Glide was a play on a previous model, the Hydra-Glide, which was produced from 1949 to 1957. The Hydra-Glide was fitted with a hydraulically damped fork, a big upgrade from spring only front ends used previously. The Duo-Glide name denotes that this model has both front and rear suspension."" American Rider, Nov. 2024
For consignment, a 1964 Harley Davidson FLH Duo-Glide motorcycle showing 22 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This bike has been the recipient of a frame up restoration and complete top and bottom end rebuild of the motor.
Exterior
Hi-Fi Blue paint adorns the fenders and gas tank of this classic bike but the color does not stand alone. On the tank, it's layered under a white cap and pinstripe and of course, the Harley Davidson badge of each side. On the fenders, the blue is accented with bold edge trim pieces in polished chrome and a Duo-Glide emblem on the fronts. The windshield adds a nice complement with a translucent blue lower half, above chrome tubed engine guards the protrude and gives the bike visual width. All of the external metal is polished to a diamond like shine, especially the pan shaped valve covers which have a subtle Harley logo engraved in the center. Chrome exhaust pipes terminate with flared vertical tips while the wide leather spring loaded saddle is perched ahead of the nicely matched fringed leather and aptly named saddle bags.
Functionality
Up front, an easy to read speedometer with single digits is houses in a chrome faceplate flanked by polished gas caps. Simple handlebars are accompanied by a only a single push button on each side. 16-inch chrome wire wheels both wear drum brakes. A single headlight with fog lights and amber markers present a bold face up front while triple red lights in back include the brake light and red marker lights. A pair of license plate red reflectors add even more visibility and color to the back.
Drivetrain
A 73.66ci V-Twin is on board which has been rebuilt and now houses an upgraded cam and an S&S Super B carburetor. The 4-speed manual now has a Pro clutch and provides power the rear wheels through a chain driven configuration. Dual exhaust leave the block in style and the legendary suspension is comprised of hydraulic Duo-Glide up front and swing arm with twin shocks in back. The H in the bike's name indicates high compression.
More from American Rider: ""The 1964 model was the last year before the addition of electric start and is therefore the last year of a 4-speed transmission design that dates all the way back to 1936. This naming convention would continue with the 1965 version of this bike, dubbed the Electra Glide to denote the addition of electric start.""
This '64 presents in near pristine condition and will be a crowning jewel in your Harley collection, even if it's a collection of one! ""The 1964 model year was the last of the kick only Big Twins. Just being able to push a button to start your motorcycle was a big technological leap and made Harleys more accessible to new riders, but it fundamentally changed the riding experience.""
