"1963 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible
""The Bonnevilles, for those who want the finest we build. Bonnevilles showcase our attitude about building highly gratifying cars. You can pick one out four furlongs away. Get a little closer, though, if you want the full effect of its elegant interior that includes a custom steering wheel and an elegant dash. With polished walnut and brushed stainless inserts, no less. Bonnevilles come equipped with a 389ci Trophy V8 producing 303 horsepower, (for a few extra dollars you can go on up to 370hp). The wheelbase is no less than 123 inches. Quite a car."" From the 1963 sales brochure
For consignment, a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville convertible with a title verified 85,246 actual miles. Owned by our consignor for 20 years, the car has been sorted mechanically during his tenure, and the interior has some additions to its mostly original componentry. As a bonus, as of 12/11/25 the car was treated to a new fuel pump, trans pan gasket, fuel line, reverse light wiring and a new high and low pressure power steering hose
Exterior
Receiving a repaint more than 20 years ago, the single stage Marimba Red has held up well but the stand out for this car is that amazing side trim that streaks back from the edge of the headlights the middle of the door where it ends with a beveled edge, ribbed in a way that mimics the grille and in effect continues it. Rocker panel trim also dresses the side more discreetly and the bumpers make their presence known with wrap around up front and flush continuation out back. While we're back here, take note of those tail lights, also wildly unique, and the panel trim, striped and grille like as was the trend. We've got dual tail pipes back here, and a fender mounted side mirror up front. The white canvas top is newer and the plastic window is clear. Imperfections include areas of bubbling, scuffs, and scratches. The bumpers have some scuffs and peeling plating, and a few small dents.
Interior
Shades of red cover the door panels beginning with pleated maroon vinyl installed in a slanted fashion for interest, surrounding a smooth, red panel and armrest, all underscored by a red carpeted lower panel. Both doors present in nice condition. The original split bench also combines dark red with a lighter shade and has some cracking in the vinyl but overall good condition and the same could be said about the rear material. Translucent plastic is mixed with brown on the steering wheel, showing patina with some cracking but the horn ring has some new wood inserts, along with the dash mid panel which is home to metal knobs, push button vent controller, and an AM radio that could be its twin, there's also a radio/CD in the glove box. Three gauges sit next to the horizontal speedometer and three newer gauges have been added under the dash. The glove box creates a bit of a red shelf where a grab handle is provided, and maroon carpet covers the floor below. The trunk is barren and has some surface and a covered spare.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a clean 389ci V8, bored .030 over and rebuilt, originally rated at 303 horsepower, and repainted the correct 1963 engine color. Atop it sits a rebuilt 4-barrel carburetor and behind it, a rebuilt ST300 2-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear axle and 3.23 gears. Our consignor states that during his ownership, the engine received new rings, bearings, seals, timing chain, water pump, fuel pump, motor mounts and transmission mounts.
Undercarriage
Lots of newer components under here, per our consignor, including a rebuilt brake system for the power drum brakes at all four wheels, rebuilt suspension, newer coil springs and shock absorbers at both ends, and rebuilt steering components. Other than the newer parts, visually its driver quality underneath with surface rust coating most metal There's some oil on the differential. Dual exhaust flows through a pair of red Cherrybomb mufflers on their way to chrome tips.
Drive-Ability
The well maintained car starts without fail and we roll the 75 series tires and this long car onto the test loop where performance testing goes well with adequate acceleration and power, straight tracking, good handling, and solid braking. We note the clock, and reverse lights are not working but all other functions do their thing. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This car will come to you with PHS documentation, invoices, receipts, extra wheels covers with spinners, and various other items. More than 66,000 1963 Bonnevilles were produced and we're thrilled to represent this one at the mall, our first 1963 in a relatively short list of desirable Bonneville models that have come through our Hallowed Halls.
