1962 Mack B95 Thermodyne Camper
The Mack B series is a model line of trucks produced by Mack Trucks between 1953 and 1966. The successor to the 1940-1956 Mack L series, the B-series was a line of heavy conventional cab trucks. Adopting a more streamlined appearance over its predecessor, the B-series was designed with a sloped windshield and larger, rounded fenders. The model line was sold in multiple configurations, including tractors and straight/rigid trucks, cowled chassis, or fire trucks.
For consignment, a 1962 Mack B95 Thermodyne Camper showing 120,053 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This big rig has been converted to a motor coach with all the amenities of home just behind the cab. If you want to camp around the country and do it in something other than standard campers, this ride is for you.
Exterior
Mack Green covers the cab which is classically adorned with the bulldog hood ornament, and the usual side trim that also includes the dog in profile. Up front, a heavy duty bumper with diamond steel plate shines bright and carries a radiator guard and bumper guide posts topped by even more Mack dogs. Side tanks serve as step ups with sharply textured surfaces and big side mirrors extend wide to see beyond the boxed camper on the back. This camper is a B&B Coach Company of Las Vega unit constructed of aluminum and painted white over gray with polished corner braces and roof transition. The diamond steel valance houses a large fan inside and a spare wheel and motorcycle rack outside. Imperfections on the exterior of this large vehicle includes some areas of fading and peeling green paint and a linear ding with scuff on the body of the camper. 22.5-inch Alcoa wheels are wrapped in 11R22.5 tires with a late 2021 date code.
Interior
The door panels are simply green painted steel with a brown carpeted lower panel. Inside, green diamond stitched low back bucket seats flank the floor shifter. A leather wrapped steering wheel fronts a wood faced instrument cluster with more bells and whistles than the space shuttle. Lots of gauges, knobs and toggles occupy the space and the green painted dash to the right. The glove box door is constructed of matching wood and an AM/FM/CD player resides in the center. The floor is covered with a rubber mat. The coach is a full camper with a dinette, sofa, galley with microwave and 2 top burner, residential refrigerator, side sink, dry bath with full sized shower, and separate master suite with full sized bed. The space is lined in wood cabinetry and trim which even frames the control center.
Drivetrain
Up front resides the 675ci Maxidyne turbo diesel six cylinder, fuel injected and rated at 315 horsepower. An Allison 6-speed automatic is mated to the engine and routes power the rear axle with 7.49 gears. Drum brakes which are air brakes, are supplied in front and back.
Undercarriage
A single exhaust carries a stock style muffler and heavy duty leaf springs are utilized up front and 4 air bag system in the rear.
Drive-Ability
We're in no hurry to get around the test loop and that suits this big rig just fine. The turbo diesel pulls the truck with no issues and shifts on its own, which is a major bonus. We note the radio was not working and the A/C is cool but not cold. All other functions onboard operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
