1962 Ford Thunderbird – 390ci V8 - Automatic
This 1962 Ford Thunderbird is a great-looking example of Ford's iconic personal luxury car, finished in a beautiful light blue paint with a contrasting dark blue painted roof featuring heavy metallic flake that really stands out in the sunlight. The exterior retains its classic Thunderbird styling, complete with distinctive chrome trim, sculpted body lines, and turbine-style wheels wrapped in Hankook tires. The paint and brightwork present nicely overall, with some minor imperfections consistent with a well-maintained driver-quality classic.
Under the hood sits the legendary 390ci V8 paired with an automatic transmission. The transmission was rebuilt less than 500 miles ago, while the engine was reportedly rebuilt approximately 15 years ago, although no supporting documentation is included. Additional upgrades include an electronic ignition conversion and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. The Thunderbird runs and drives nicely, making it an enjoyable classic cruiser.
Inside, the blue vinyl bucket-seat interior complements the exterior beautifully and retains much of its original character. The factory dashboard remains intact, complete with the original radio, center console, and classic Thunderbird instrumentation. One of the standout features is the factory swing-away steering wheel, designed to move aside for easier entry and exit. The interior presents well overall, showing some normal wear consistent with its age.
This Thunderbird reportedly spent the majority of its life in Arizona and California before relocating in 2017, contributing to its overall solid condition. The undercarriage presents as a solid driver-quality example, while the engine compartment maintains a largely original appearance with a few mechanical updates. The trunk also includes a spare tire, jack, original hubcaps, wiring diagram, fender skirts, and various miscellaneous spare parts as pictured.
Overall, this 1962 Ford Thunderbird is a very solid and attractive driver-quality classic with a desirable 390 V8, recently rebuilt transmission, and a unique two-tone blue color combination. While it could benefit from some light TLC to bring it to the next level, it presents nicely, drives well, and offers plenty of vintage Thunderbird charm for its next owner to enjoy.
