Few automobiles capture the optimism and extravagance of postwar America quite like a full-size Cadillac convertible, and this 1960 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible is a beautiful example. Finished in striking Pompeian Red Metallic (Code 50) with a matching convertible top boot, it combines unmistakable Cadillac styling with its original 390ci V8, desirable power equipment, and a substantial amount of recent mechanical attention.
The 1960 model retained Cadillac's legendary tailfin styling while refining the dramatic proportions of the previous year. With its expansive bodywork, abundant chrome and stainless trim, wraparound windshield, and unmistakable rear fins, this Series 62 has tremendous presence from every angle.
The Pompeian Red Metallic finish is particularly attractive in the sunlight, revealing a rich reddish-copper tone with plenty of metallic character. The body presents impressively straight, including those enormous rear quarter panels, while the brightwork complements the car beautifully.
Completing the period appearance is a set of desirable Kelsey-Hayes wheels wrapped in wide whitewall tires.
Under the hood is the car's original 390ci Cadillac V8, backed by an automatic transmission. Considerable work has been performed to make this Cadillac a dependable cruiser, including attention to the cooling, fuel, electrical, suspension, and steering systems.
The original generator has been upgraded to an alternator, while the cooling system has received a new radiator, water pump, heater core, heater hoses, and related service. Fuel-system work includes a replacement gas tank and fuel lines, fuel pump service, rebuilt carburetor, and replacement choke tube.
The intake manifold was also replaced after the previous manifold developed a crack. Importantly, a correct replacement with matching casting identification was sourced, and the original intake manifold is included with the car.
Additional work includes new belts, shocks, springs, bushings, and steering components. A battery shutoff switch and connection for a battery maintainer have also been installed.
