"1958 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible

For consignment, a 1958 Pontiac Bonneville convertible showing 56,819 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, this fully restored Bonneville is a rare bird with over the top expressions of late 50's design and jet age influence.
Exterior
If car reviewer Charles Phoenix was reporting on this car, he would start with the appropriate ""where do we begin to behold the glory?!"". If chrome and accents were options, this car has checked every box, beginning in front where bold chrome bezels host the dual headlights and a massive eggcrate grille is flanked by marker lights that look like intakes and a bumper with a snarling underbite. As if on a turntable, we move to the profile where a central Rangoon Red spear becomes a polished rocket ship, complete with three dimensional thruster and a wide red contrails that leave a row of stars behind. In back, four tail lights could easily be mistaken for more afterburners and the decklid in Graystone White has rows of linear depressions that shed moon dust and wind. 14-inch wheels with white walls and covers take on the red and white palette, all under a black canvas top and all in fantastic condition. Imperfections are limited to some chipping paint, scratches, cracks, inclusions, deglazing on the windows, a rust stain under a window reveal, chips throughout, scuffs and scratches on the rocker panel trim.
Interior
Red and white and polished metal floods the interior with ornate shapes, varied materials, and a lot of pizzazz, first noticed on the door panels which are in great shape save for the ornamental tape bands around the armrests which have loosened. Red pleated inserts are framed in white vinyl on the split bench and the rear bench in dramatic fashion. But the real drama is up front where a red steering wheel with full horn ring fronts a dynamic dashboard full of aircraft like chrome bezels on protruding gauges and vents over a concave aluminum cove and lipstick red dash pad, both of which wrap around towards the doors. The lower dash is also glossy red and hosts the AM radio. Plush red carpet fills the floor, and the trunk houses a red spare and a fitted plaid padded mat.
Drivetrain
Stock looking and impressively clean, here we find a 370ci V8 under the hood, with a 4-barrel carburetor and 255 horsepower. It's mated to a Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to 3.23 gears in the rear axle. The car has power brakes and power steering.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath with minimal surface rust, residual oil on the pad, and some of the red stuff on the transmission pan. Dual exhaust run through stock style mufflers and exit discreetly out back while power drum brakes occupy all four wheels. Suspension includes coil springs front and rear with four link in back.
Drive-Ability
This car is not only dramatic to look at, but sizable as well, so the Graystone White and Rangoon Red, along with the emblems and trim, really put on a show on the test loop. The car has good power and straight tracking and the cabin is an open, comfortable place to be with good visibility. We note the power top does not work but all other functions in this well restored car work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
In 1958, the Pontiac line included this Bonneville, the Chieftain, the Super Chief, and the Star Chief, all sharing some noteworthy features. But it's Bonneville that takes ornamental trim and interior features to the next level and what we have here is a stunning example on how it was done. This is one for the collection, or a museum if you happen to have one!
