"Historic Ford-
The Thunderbird was introduced in 1955 as a ""Personal Car of Distinction"". The original Gen 1 design was built for three years, benefiting from performance and cosmetic upgrades each year. The 1957 T-Bird was a sales success with over 21,000 units delivered.
Stunning Example-
Fully restored in 2008, this 1957 Thunderbird has been in the care of the current owner for 15 years and is a stunning example of that first-generation model. The T-Bird is striking with a professional re-spray of Coral Sand (code Z) accented by the newly designed for 1957 front and rear fascias, rear fender skirts, excellent chrome and wide-white radials mounted on steel wheels with factory wheel covers. A removable Colonial White porthole hardtop is paired with a new manual black soft top.
Interior Details-
The interior was carefully restored with new pleated Raven/Colonial White upholstery. Door cards, dash and carpeting are all in very good condition. A beautifully redesigned '57 instrument cluster with round gauges accents the seating area. Features include a deep-dish telescopic wheel, power seat, power windows and factory AM radio - it is a very cool space to spend time in.
Ford Y-Block Power-
The detailed engine compartment appears to be virtually original. Power is furnished by what is reported as a matching-numbers Thunderbird 312ci Y-block (D code) rated at 245hp. It is said to have never required a rebuild and is fitted with the factory ""Engine Dress-Up Kit"" that adds an over-sized air cleaner assembly and chrome/cast accents. The original Holley ""teapot"" carburetor has been replaced with a modern Holley 4-barrel that is mounted on the factory manifold. Factory exhaust manifolds have been retained, and electrics are managed by a 12V generator system. This Y-block is backed by a 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission and original differential gearing with 3.70:1. The clean chassis is equipped with power steering, manual drum brakes and a new fuel tank.
