57 ford story,
I purchased the car in 2014, from Fresno California, (off eBay,) from a (non dealer) couple that hadnt had it very long so I dont have any history on it & it was not modified yet. I shipped it directly to South Alabama Customs in Cowarts AL for its transformation.
It had been painted black (I think it was white and black originally) in the recent past in CA and the black rag top had been replaced shortly before I purchased it.
The interior was mostly original (when I purchased it) with a bench seat but had been re-upholstered at some point. I completely re-did the interior with new door panels, carpet, front seats/console, electric windows, air conditioning, etc. The back seat is the original seat but re upholstered to match the front. I believe the red interior paint is also original.
The radio too was changed to a Custom Auto Sound unit but has no speakers in the car yet.
It was born (from the factory) with a 312 4 barrel engine and a 3 on the tree std transmission with overdrive, and had power steering also from the factory.
That engine had been replaced sometime in its life with a 292 2 barrel so out it came.
The gas tank has been replaced, but had the original when purchased.
To my knowledge and observation, it has never had a frame off restoration but is a high-quality survivor car that has been pampered and garage kept its entire life, due to the fact there is no rust anywhere in the car. It has the original bugle horns that work too.
I have kept the car in a garage since I have had it as well.
The frame is the original X frame, (convertible frame) not modified except for the traction bars I added to handle the HP, and added large sway bars front and rear. It doesnt not have air bags under it. The springs are original as well. All the ball joints and bushings have been replaced, although they too were original when I purchased it. The differential is the original 9 (1957 was the 1st year for the Ford 9 rear-end) but the gear member has been changed.
The original 3 speed std steering column was replaced with a stock original automatic column to handle the new auto trans. The pedals were changed as well for the auto trans, replaced with 69 mustang pedals (brake & gas) with the stainless rings around them.
This is a great example of a old car (just cosmetics have been restored, (paint, engine, upholstery, etc.) that has been well cared for from the beginning and is not modified that much and could be returned to a stock example easily for the purest out there.
The front and rear bumpers were smoothed out and re-chromed and were the only things that I re-chromed. The bumpers that were on it when purchased were already re-chromed but not smoothed out.
The windshield was original when I purchased it but during transit from CA it got damaged so I had to replace it along with the weatherstripping around it.
