"1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Station Wagon
""Chevrolet station wagons are born with a wonderlust, eager to go at the drop of a tailgate. For '57 there are six of the handsomest travelers ever, including one model 9 passenger big. New exteriors are colorful and smart, either for town or country. Bel Air interiors combine Jacquard-loomed pattern cloth with vinyl. In 'Two-Tens' and 'One-Fifties' interiors are all vinyl, washable, rugged, and extremely handsome."" From the 1957 Chevrolet brochure.
For consignment, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air station wagon showing 430 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Bel Air was the top trim level of course that was available on 1957 Chevrolets and could be optioned on two door and four door sedans, convertibles, and wagons.
Exterior
Look at that profile! The fin and wedge are iconic of course, but the floating roofline over the unfettered greenhouse of glass is simply a game changer. Here's the ultimate family vacation vehicle with its elongated and exaggerated panels and proportions two stage Larkspur Blue and India Ivory with the trimmings of '57 Bel Air including the double torpedo hood ornaments and wide, polished ""V"" at both ends. Dagmar bumpers and big chrome adorn the front while 14-inch color matched wheels with proper covers keep it classic and white wall tires coordinate with the roof and wedge. Triple cabochon ornaments in gold cling to the front fender and a midline spear polished all the way through its wedge induced split. Imperfections include chips throughout, scuffs, scratches on the stainless trim, some bubbles, paint runs, scratches, and spots of surface rust on the bumper.
Interior
Jacquard pebble print and blue vinyl dress the door panels and all four present nicely their shiny metallic hardware. The split bench combines all the materials from the doors and along with the rear bench, are in overall good condition. A baby blue steering wheel wears a polished horn ring and fronts the simple instrument cluster with protruding gauge housing and mesh style mid panel, all in great shape. There's an AM/FM/Cassette radio now and the glossy blue dash top is a curvaceous feast for the eyes. Blue loop carpet covers the floor including in the way back area and tailgate which is particularly clean. Windlace and the blue headliner are in great shape.
Drivetrain
Mixing a bit of flash with function is the 350ci V8 under the hood, wearing an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, red paint, and silver script on the valve covers. Behind it is a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to the rear axle with 3.36 gears. Power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning is on board. We also note an aluminum radiator and electric fan.
Undercarriage
Clean report from underneath with minimal surface rust and structurally sound. Power drum brakes are supplied to all four wheels and dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers before winding it way to the rear corners for exit. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
Lindsay Buckingham's ""Holiday Road"" song begins playing in our head after venturing forward onto the test loop with this stunning blue family wagon. Plenty of power to impress the kids in the back seat and plenty of comfort for the shotgun passenger. The wagon tracks straight and stops on demand and of course, visibility is very good and lacks blind spots. Other than the turn signals, all functions work as intended and we return from our adventure to find a spot in the showroom. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The car culture's obsession with wagons has not diminished, so we're thrilled whenever we can bring you a station wagon. Based on past sales, we know you appreciate it too! This is a very fine example in its original color with a clean interior and great running drivetrain.
