"INTRODUCTION: There's a difference between a nice car and a car that makes you say, ""I've got to have that."" This is one of those cars! It received a meticulous body-off-frame restoration. Then there's the look- it is a drop dead gorgeous Bird!
EXTERIOR: The fit and finish on this Thunderbird is better than it would have been brand new in 1956! These cars weren't known for precise panel fit, but this one has gaps like a Mercedes. The body is absolutely laser beam straight with no signs of rust or damage showing. It was repainted in its original Raven Black and polished to a deep, mirror like finish that is absolutely stunning. All of the chrome and trim has been replaced or beautifully restored. It has the iconic removable hardtop with the porthole windows, finished in black and restored to the same exceptional level as the rest of the car. For 1956, the Thunderbird was dressed up with wing windows and the Continental kit; this one has the metal spare tire cover with its bright chrome band. Then there are the wheels- they put this car over the top! 5 chrome Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels with spinners and black centers are wrapped in radial whitewall tires. The windshield and weatherstrips have been replaced as well. Between the Raven Black mirror finish, brilliant chrome, whitewalls and wire wheels, this Thunderbird is an absolute jaw dropper!
INTERIOR: The interior is restored to the same meticulous level as the exterior. Look across the dash and virtually every little detail appears new, from the odometer and crystal clear lenses to the knobs and controls. The dash pad fits perfectly, and the machine turned trim is pristine. It retains the original tachometer, while the clock has been upgraded with a quartz movement, and the Town & Country radio is in place. The reproduction steering wheel is a couple inches smaller than stock, making it much easier to get in and out while retaining the original appearance. The seats were completely re-cushioned and upholstered in premium material with the Thunderbird logo embossed into the upholstery. The door panels and kick panels were replaced, and fresh carpet is perfectly fitted throughout. Everywhere you look, the same exceptional attention to detail continues.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It's mechanical jewelry under the hood! The level of detail is fresh, meticulous and absolutely exceptional. At the heart of it is the original 312 cubic inch, 245 horsepower V8, dressed with the optional engine dress-up kit featuring polished finned aluminum valve covers, a chrome air cleaner and chrome oil filler cap. Look closely- right down to the nuts, bolts, clips and fasteners, everything appears like new. It has the correct teapot carburetor, correct style coil and ignition wires, fuel pump and glass bowl fuel filter. Very desirable factory power steering and power brakes make it even better to drive. It also has a reproduction style battery with a disconnect switch, and all the wiring is new. Every painted metal surface is finished smooth and glossy like glass. Virtually everything under the hood looks brand new, with the original trim tag proudly remaining in place.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: For 1956, Ford moved the spare tire outside into the Continental kit, freeing up valuable space inside the trunk. The Continental kit swings out of the way for easy access. Inside, the trunk compartment is beautifully restored in glossy Raven Black, with clean, smooth finishes throughout. A reproduction plaid trunk liner completes the factory-style presentation.
UNDERSIDE: This is one of the best detailed undercarriages I've seen come through here in a long time! It was obviously taken off the frame, then restored, rebuilt and highly detailed- literally down to the last nut, bolt, clip and clamp. The suspension was completely restored, as was the brake system, including new lines and hoses. The fuel system was replaced, including the tank. It has the correct dual exhaust system with the tips properly routed through the rear bumper, and the emergency brake is hooked up. Look up at the motor and it's spotless- even the Motorcraft oil filter is a nice touch. The correct Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission looks like new, and the rear end was rebuilt. The floors are pristine metal, and all the chassis and metal surfaces are smooth, tidy and beautifully finished.

CONCLUSION: Think about the way a jeweler grades a diamond, or how a collector grades a baseball card or a rare comic book. At first glance, two examples may appear to be the same, but look closer and there can be a tremendous difference in quality. That's exactly what separates this Thunderbird from the others. The fit, finish, restoration and attention to detail are on another level. It's so beautiful and meticulously restored, you'll want to clear a spot in your living room and put it on display!
