1956 Ford F100 Pickup
The introduction of the Ford F-series in 1948 sparked a flame destined to grow into a roaring fire by the turn of the 21st century. Over 100,000 of these trucks left the factory every year between 1953 and 1956, retaining the standard trim levels of F-100 to F-900. Of course, the most popular models were still the F-100, with the trucks finding their ways into suburban driveways en masse for the first time.
For consignment, a 1956 Ford F100 pickup truck showing 38,161 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is one of the 137,581 trucks built that year that made it to 2025 and now represents a true and desirable American classic and the grandfather of the best selling vehicle in America for 48 consecutive years.
Exterior
Black and red is a classic combination, and it's expressed on this truck through the use of full coverage of single stage black paint and red emblems that pop off the surface like beacons beginning with the crest on the nose of the hood and the Ford F100 arrow on each side. They chose to blacken the grille on this classic and it helps this truck stand out, along with the chrome headlight covers. The front bumper could use a refresh with replating or even going black itself, and the same could be said for the rear bumper, and both remain presentable. 15-inch Rev wheels give this former working truck a more modern sporty profile while the bed is lined with oak planks and stainless bed rails, all in driver condition but fully intact. Imperfections include areas of bubbling, cracking paint, a rust hole, rust in a seam, chipping paint, cracking window trim, and some of the metalwork is pitted.
Interior
Red and black buffalo plaid cloth lines the door panels with some tears on the passenger side. Inside, a pair of black bucket seats in cloth and vinyl present with some patina and face a blue painted dashboard behind a vintage steering wheel. The speedometer and line of gauges below it is augmented by a trio of modern gauges mounted under the dash, while a vintage heater unit is under the passenger's side and footwells are lined in the red and black flannel. Plush black carpet covers the floor nicely and a shifter rises from it presenting a black ball knob to the driver. The headliner, as you might have guessed, also dons the red and black checkered pattern.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, in driver quality esthetic condition, a 272ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the Dana 44 with 3.92 gears in back. Headers are also present to begin the exhaust process.
Undercarriage
Driver quality here as well with typical surface rust throughout, some oil on the rear differential and drops on the pans and some actual rust on inner panels and floorboards. There's filler on the bottom of the driver's door. Meanwhile, the dual exhaust runs through turbo mufflers and exits in front of each rear wheel. Leaf spring suspension is found front and rear, and brakes are divided as discs up front and drums in back.
Drive-Ability
It's a cornucopia of colors on the inside as we take our place on the bucket seats and send this V8 powered '56 onto the test loop where it runs fine, track straight, and handles like a truck from the 50's made a little bit better with modern 70 series tires, even as they are 13 years old. We note just the horn not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
It's not hard to imagine this truck running through town in 1957, after a year of hard work through rain and snow and hot sun. Here's one in driver condition that you can actually drive and not worry about scratching your show truck. This could be your true classic grocery getter and also parts hauler for your build project, so much potential. Such a classic ride. Let's get this retired work truck back to work and play.
