Gateway Classic Cars is proud to present this 1956 Chevrolet 3100, a stunning example of how timeless design and modern performance can come together to create something truly unforgettable. The Chevrolet Task Force trucks introduced in 1955 represented a dramatic evolution in pickup styling, and by 1956 Chevrolet had refined the formula into what many enthusiasts consider one of the most attractive trucks of the era. With its distinctive grille and unmistakable hood design, the 1956 model has become a favorite among collectors, builders, and hot rod enthusiasts alike.
Finished in a vibrant orange exterior complemented by a tan roof, this 3100 commands attention from every angle. One of the defining characteristics of a 1956 Chevrolet pickup is its period-correct hood design, and this truck showcases it beautifully. The sculpted hood gives the front end an aggressive yet elegant appearance, serving as one of the key styling elements that separates the '56 from the rest of the Task Force lineup. It's a detail enthusiasts immediately recognize and appreciate, and on this truck it helps create a presence that is impossible to ignore.
Inside, the craftsmanship continues with an interior color scheme that seamlessly complements the exterior. The cabin features custom easy-care vinyl upholstery in buckskin and autumn rust across the bench seat, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels both vintage and refined. Black carpeting provides a striking contrast, while a new headliner freshens the overall presentation. Modern conveniences have been thoughtfully integrated without sacrificing the truck's classic charm. An Ididit tilt steering column topped with a custom solid oak steering wheel offers comfort and style, while the VHX analog/digital gauge system provides accurate information through a sophisticated display. Vintage Air heating and air conditioning help keep the cabin comfortable no matter the season, and a Custom Autosound AM/FM radio delivers modern sound in a package designed specifically for classic vehicles. Seat belts and Rattle Trap Xtreme sound deadening further enhance the driving experience, making this truck as enjoyable on long highway cruises as it is around town.
Beneath the hood lies the heart of this remarkable build: a custom Stage 2 Chevrolet 383 CID V8 that was engineered to impress. Featuring a roller camshaft with .500 lift and 278 duration on the intake side and .510 lift with 284 duration on the exhaust, this powerplant was built with performance in mind. Aluminum heads and an aluminum intake help maximize efficiency, while an MSD HEI Quick Fire distributor with power module ensures reliable ignition. Fuel delivery comes courtesy of a Quick Fuel carburetor, and ceramic-coated headers help this small block breathe freely while adding durability and visual appeal.
The results speak for themselves. During break-in on the dyno, this potent 383 produced an impressive 440 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Backing the engine is a 700R4 automatic transmission with overdrive, delivering strong acceleration while providing relaxed highway cruising capabilities. The Lokar shifter and matching Lokar emergency brake add another level of quality and sophistication to the build.
The chassis has been transformed to deliver driving characteristics far beyond what Chevrolet engineers could have imagined in 1956. A Heidts Mustang II front suspension equipped with rack-and-pinion steering provides responsive handling and improved road manners. Power disc brakes help bring this truck to a confident stop, while the rear features a four-link coil-over suspension setup paired with a Ford 9-inch rear end housing a 3.25 ratio Posi-Traction differential and rear disc brakes. The under-bed fuel tank contributes to a cleaner appearance and improved practicality.
Out back, the oak bed accented with stainless steel hardware showcases the attention to detail invested throughout the entire build. The craftsmanship is evident in every plank and polished fastener. Completing the look are Corvette rally sport wheels measuring 15 inches by 8 inches wide, giving this classic pickup a purposeful stance that hints at the performance lurking beneath the surface.
This 1956 Chevrolet 3100 is far more than a restored pickup truck. It's a carefully crafted restomod that celebrates the iconic styling of the Task Force era while delivering the power, comfort, and drivability today's enthusiasts demand. Whether admired for its show-stopping appearance, appreciated for its engineering, or enjoyed on the open road, this Chevrolet stands as a testament to what happens when passion and craftsmanship come together to build something extraordinary.
