Better equipped than the workaday Chevrolet 150 below it but not as opulent as the Chevrolet Bel-Air above it, the Chevrolet 210 served as the middleweight vehicle for the company during the mid-1950s. The Chevrolet Delray, named after the Delray neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan, debuted in 1954 as an optional trim level on two-door models of Chevrolet's mid-range 210 series of cars.
Known today as one of the Tri-Fives to collectors, Chevrolets from 1955 to 1957 are highly sought after by classic car collectors. For the Tri-Five years, the Delray was essentially an interior option package for the plain 210 two door sedan.
This example was made in General Motors' Oakland, California assembly plant (VIN code O). Dressed in black with its full chrome trim, the appearance is striking as well as in overall excellent condition. The car's massive chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body, the cargo area is clean and tidy, and has a tire jack. To fill the car with fuel, the fuel cap is behind the driver's side taillight.
This car rolls on modern radial tires with thin sidewalls. Each tire is mounted on five-spoke aluminum wheels.
Under the hood is a custom-made 496 CID V-8 engine with dual exhausts and it is backed by a five-speed manual transmission. The motor has an MSD ignition and aftermarket power steering, a Milodon oil pan and a Flaming River rack-and-pinion steering kit. Further the car has desirable upgraded disc brakes up front and air conditioning.
Inside, the car's black-and-red vinyl upholstery complements the car's exterior. The front and rear bench seats are in great condition, as is the black carpeting, the black and red interior door panels that mirror the upholstery, and a Grant, three-spoke steering wheel with wooden rim. The steering column tilts. The car's factory gauges have been supplemented by a Sunpro tachometer perched on the steering column, and two other ancillary gauges mounted to the right of the speedometer. There's AM/FM stereo from Custom Autosound mounted in the dashboard.
This example comes with a library of documentation, including owner's guides for the stereo, steering column, power steering pump, ignition and loads of other receipts, booklets, brochures and more in a binder.
Today, the Bel Air series of Chevrolets from 1953 to 1957 are far and away the most desirable models for collectors. However, Two-Ten models do have appeal, especially the 1953 convertible (very rare), the Del Ray Club Coupe with its upgraded vinyl interior, and the Sport Coupe hardtops of 1953 and 1955-57. Other models are less valuable, but again, can be purchased for less money than Bel Airs, for Chevrolet collectors on a budget. Unlike the One-Fifty series, Two-Tens do sport a fair amount of chrome trim and deluxe interior appointments, making them attractive and comfortable.
