"1955 Ford Fairlane Victoria 2 Door Hardtop
""Here is a new and exciting open sided beauty. Long, low, graceful lines, enhanced by the new wraparound windshield give the Victoria a distinction that's all its own. Quarter windows roll down out of sight leaving no center posts and providing a wonderful feeling of openness! It's available in single and two tone colors."" From the 1955 Ford sales brochure that featured more than 12 Fairlane based models.
For consignment, a 1955 Ford Fairlane Victoria showing 70,992 miles, but the true miles are unknown. As Rick Debruhl has stated, many people consider 1955 a major turning point in automotive styling with jet-age influence and focus on cars that illustrated prosperity and post war progress.
Exterior
The two tones were always sharply contrasted and that's the case with Raven Black and Snowshoe White on this stunner. White caps the car and drapes over the roof and stops there, held up high by broad, polished pillars over curved end glass. That shiny metal compliments the flying ""V"" side trim that starts on top of the front fenders, spilling down on the door, then shooting rearward to run the length of the car. The Victoria may lack the picnic basket trim of the Crown, but what it gains is a pillarless opening when all side windows are down, and this was a coveted feature in the era. The elongated rear overhang is complemented by jet-age tail lights and their finned nacelles and a sculpted chrome bumper. Fender skirts cover most of the rear wheels but the fronts let us know that the 15-inch white wall tires and full covers are all on board. The metalwork and paint are very nice on the car with a few imperfections noted as chips, inclusions, some orange peel, bubbling, and some surface rust on the bumper.
Interior
The color combo and bright trim continue to the inside where a white upper door panels ride over black vinyl below in an array of textures. The split bench front seats feature white tops and sides and charcoal gray cloth lowers presenting in very nice condition, mirrored by the rear bench. A white steering wheel fronts the two tone dashboard features the domed speedometer, backlit by mother nature herself! Round is the theme on the functional items including the vent controls, the AM radio, and the clock, with additional circles added in the form of a triple gauge pack under the dash. Black loop carpet covers the floor and a perforated white headliner stands tall and tight overhead. A plaid vinyl mat covers the trunk and we peek underneath to find a clean, stamped steel surface painted black.
Drivetrain
Presenting in original configuration is the red blocked 272ci V8, rated at 162 horsepower and fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor. It's backed by a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 9"" rear with 3.10 gears.
Undercarriage
We find clean and dry conditions with some typical patina and minimal surface rust. Here, dual exhaust travels through cherrybomb mufflers on their way to a square tipped exit. Drum brakes are on all four wheels and suspension is standard; coil springs up front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
This clean and comfortable ride provides a trouble free lap around the test loop as we peer over the single colored front end. Tracks straight and brake on command, with the only non working functions being the horn and heater blower. Everything else passes the test of time! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
""There are daring new exterior color treatments, colorful upholstery patterns and harmonizing trim ensembles that combine to strike new notes in motor car décor,"" says the '55 brochure. Seventy years later, those words still ring true with this example. Are you ready to climb aboard the SS Victoria? Our phone number is at the top of this page.
