"1955 Ford Customline Tudor Sedan
""Ford introduced all new models for 1952, beating rival Chevrolet to the punch by a full year. The Customline became the company's mid market entry, and it featured a more modern style. Wraparound windshield, curved rear glass, a modified grille, and more ornamentation to break up the earlier ""Shoebox"" Ford's slab sides gave the new Customline a fresh look."" Thx Hagerty.com
For consignment, a 1995 Ford Customline Tudor sedan with a title verified 83,325 actual miles. Here's one that puts the ""custom"" in Customline with everything from flames and fender skirts to custom tail lights and etched glass. If you're looking for a mix of old and new wrapped in an eye popping package, this turquoise trick might just be your pot at the end of the rainbow!
Exterior
With 900 cars in the mall, it's not often we get stopped in our tracks, but the bold and exciting paint job on the Tudor gets the job done! Silver metallic scalloped flames color the front of the car, then lick back over the fenders and doors with fantastic shading as the tips bleed into the Turquoise metallic paint over the rest of the car. The flames pick up again on the fender skirts and just as intended, the car looks to be moving forward quickly, fanning the flames even as it stands idle in the mall! Out back, the typical round Ford lights of the time have been covered with a turquoise plate with an embedded oval tail light and detailed paint spelling out FORD on each. Cat ear reverse lights perch on top, flanking the smooth shaved decklid. Other than the hood being nosed and painted, it's fairly standard fare up front with Ford's grated grille, larger marker lights, and bold, contoured chrome bumper. 17-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels live on the corner and they wear fresh tires, 235/55R17's with a date code of late 2024. The only imperfection we find is a chipped edge of a body panel. The rest is, as the kids say, fire!
Interior
Pleated turquoise cloth covers the inner doors that greet you as you enter the car, complete with white armrests and electric window switches and both doors present cleanly. The colors and material repeat on the split bench with broad, white vinyl stripes bisecting each seat, a pattern mimicked on the back bench and up onto the package shelf where even the speaker covers are turquoise! The Lecarra steering wheel is wrapped in blue leather and leads to the vintage dashboard with the epic Astra Dial see-through speedometer over a panel of black knobs. In the center, three circles make up the heater lever panel, the AM radio tuner, and a clock. Additions made below the dash include a modern AM/FM/CD radio and the tri-pack gauge cluster with oil, water, and volts being monitored along with an added AC controller. A center console has also been added to bring the car in compliance with today's need for cupholders and some storage. Light turquoise carpet covers the floor cleanly, and the headliner is also clean and intact, while the trunk is finished in carpet and pleated walls all while housing a spare Torque Thrust, amplifier, and subwoofers.
Drivetrain
Act three of this show might be the crescendo! Under the hood is 5.0 liter EFI V8 and nearly every component is polished, including that familiar intake plenum desired by many and found in the late 80's and 90's Mustang GTs. An AOD 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive backs the engine up and power brakes are onboard, discs in front and drums in the back. Even the power brake booster is dressed up in the bay!
Undercarriage
We head backstage during this turquoise show to find things clean, but not as showy as the topside. In fact, things are pretty standard under here with some typical surface rust but no signs of leaks. Dual exhaust moves through Flo-Pro mufflers on their way to chrome tips out back. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. There's some light rust on the bottom of the driver's door, but not nearly enough to detract from the quality of the car.
Drive-Ability
We take center stage and the left side of the bench to fire up this 5 liter street heater where new tires, fuel injection, and power steering give us all the confidence we need for a short lap or two. The big car tracks straight and brakes on demand while the 5.0 delivers smooth power to the rear axle. On our functionality report, we note the wipers, horn, and rear power windows are not working. But everything else here, including the added modern features, operate as they should! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Flames have been a part of the hot rod scene for nearly 100 years, but the silver on turquoise here is unique and very cool. The car is well done and show worthy. Pop the hood and the trunk, and this Ford is a show in three acts, exterior, interior, and engine bay. This rock star needs a new manager and a clear path to the show circuit where it can be seen by adoring fans. If you've ever aspired to be Colonel Tom Parker in 1955, here's your chance.
