"1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Hardtop
When the 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air arrived, Chevrolet enjoyed an all new image practically overnight. Rather than a car driven mainly by dads and aunts, the sensationally redesigned ""Motoramic"" models quickly gained a reputation as ""The Hot Ones"". More than 340,000 units were built in 1955.
For consignment, a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop with a title verified 10,419 actual miles. This is a stunning example with a 283ci V8, great paint colors, and a fantastic matching interior.
Exterior
Fifties two tone is accomplished here with two stage Regal Turquoise mated with India Ivory on the rear decklid and fenders, and it's a fantastic design contrast that works stupendously on this car. Whether you see the side trim as a hockey stick, a forward flying jet, or just an artistic addition, it's the perfect frame to delineate the colors and visually connect to the chrome wrap around of the bumper. The Chevrolet crest on the nose provides a splash of new color over the epic, Ferrari-inspired grille and chrome bumper, and that crest reappears on the rounded decklid. Stock configuration means 15-inch wheels with full covers and body colored rims along with wide white walls here with an early 2021 date code. Overall, the car is clean and straight. Imperfections include some chipped paint with some touched up, spider and other cracks, surface checking, a bit of under spray on a lower deck lid corner, some bubbles, rough chrome surface on back bumper, and a few spots of orange peel.
Interior
The design of the door cards, two tone turquoise and beige, mirror the sharp angles of the exterior trim and have both smooth and stitched surfaces along with window cranks for the main window and the vent window and both doors present with 50's panache. The turquoise vinyl of the seats meet midway down the back with beige cloth which continues over the length of the split bench, and the back bench mirrors the pattern, and both are in great shape. From the turquoise steering wheel forward, Chevrolet designers created a work of art that combines color with chrome, a black faced speedometer, and the incredible stamping of bowties in the mid panel, and it's all impeccable here. Turquoise carpet, turquoise rubber mats, a white headliner with polished bows, and a clean rubber covered trunk housing a spotless spare complete the tour of this show worthy interior.
Drivetrain
Trifecta! Following a clean exterior and interior, we have a brilliant engine bay, home to the 283ci V8 with an Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear axle with 3.55 gears. The car is equipped with power brakes and power steering. The bases are loaded. Let's go check out the underside.
Undercarriage
Grand Slam! About as clean as you can get with a single spot of surface rust and some oil film on the rear differential but otherwise near pristine. Dual exhaust flows freely to the Flowmaster mufflers on their way to the back. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in back and suspension includes coil springs and leaf springs, fore and aft respectively.
Drive-Ability
This turquoise piece of Americana does everything well from idling and driving to turning and braking. The only demerit is for reverse lights that are not illuminating, otherwise all functional items work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you don't have a Tri-Five in your collection, consider this fine '55. If you have a '56 and '57, here's one to round out your stable. If you have no hobby cars and always loved the '55 Chevrolet, well, swipe right as they say, because we think we've found your match! Inside and out, a stunning car.
