1955 Chevrolet Cameo, Frame-Off Restoration, 265 V8, Bombay Ivory & Commercial Red Few trucks represent the beginning of Chevrolet’s upscale pickup era quite like the 1955 Chevrolet Cameo. With its distinctive styling, limited production, and passenger-car-inspired details, the Cameo helped redefine what a pickup truck could be. This beautifully restored example is finished in the iconic Bombay Ivory with Commercial Red, the signature color combination offered on the 1955 Cameo. Only 5,220 Cameos were produced for 1955, making these trucks highly desirable among Chevrolet collectors. This example has undergone an extensive frame-off restoration with considerable attention paid to retaining the original character and appearance of the truck. Highlights 1955 Chevrolet Cameo Series 3100 1/2-Ton Pickup Only 5,220 Cameos produced for 1955 Finished in Bombay Ivory with Commercial Red Comprehensive frame-off restoration 265 Cubic Inch Small Block V8 Engine 3-Speed Automatic Transmission Only 79 miles showing since restoration Beautiful wood bed All-new red and white interior New headliner 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air-style tail lights 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air hubcaps Wide whitewall tires Chrome rear bumper Hidden spare tire compartment Radio (currently inoperable) Extensive restoration completed using original components where practical Outstanding presentation inside, outside, underneath, and throughout Extensive Restoration The restoration began with the complete truck being chemically stripped by 122 Auto Restoration in Wauchula, Florida, utilizing a process known as “Revivation.” This is a non-acid, non-destructive chemical stripping and de-rusting process designed to remove corrosion, paint, and contaminants while preserving the underlying metal. Following the stripping process, the Cameo was assembled and painted by Hot Rods Unlimited in Oak Hill, Florida. The restoration was completed over approximately a two-year period, with a clear goal of bringing the truck back as close to its original configuration and appearance as possible. Original components were retained whenever they were in good enough condition to be properly restored and reused, while new components were installed where necessary. The result is a carefully restored Cameo that maintains the character and styling that made these trucks so special when new. 265 Small Block V8 Under the hood sits Chevrolet’s legendary 265 cubic inch small block V8, paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The introduction of Chevrolet’s small block V8 in 1955 marked an important point in the company’s history, and finding a Cameo equipped with V8 power makes for a particularly desirable combination. Many Cameos were equipped with Chevrolet’s dependable inline-six, making the V8-powered trucks especially appealing to collectors who want both performance and historical significance. With only 79 miles showing on the odometer since the restoration, this truck has seen very limited use following completion. Iconic Cameo Styling The Cameo was unlike a conventional pickup of its day. Chevrolet incorporated styling cues that gave the truck a more refined, passenger-car appearance, helping lay the groundwork for the premium pickups that would follow decades later. This example has been further dressed with tasteful Chevrolet components including 1954 Bel Air-style tail lights, 1955 Bel Air hubcaps, wide whitewall tires, and a chrome rear bumper. The rear of the truck is especially clean, with the spare tire concealed within a hidden spare tire compartment rather than hanging underneath or disrupting the truck's appearance. The beautifully finished wood bed completes the presentation and gives the truck the classic look collectors expect from a properly restored 1950s Chevrolet pickup. Beautiful Red & White Interior Inside, the Cameo features a completely refreshed red and white interior that perfectly complements the exterior color combination. The seating, trim, and headliner have all been restored, creating a clean and inviting cabin that captures the unmistakable style of the mid-1950s. The truck is also equipped with a period-style radio, although the radio is currently inoperable. A Special Piece of Chevrolet Truck History The 1955 Chevrolet Cameo occupies an important place in American automotive history. It combined the usefulness of Chevrolet's proven 3100 pickup platform with dramatically improved styling and trim, creating one of the earliest truly upscale American pickups. With limited production, beautiful styling, V8 power, and an extensive frame-off restoration, this example checks many of the boxes collectors look for in a quality Cameo. Finished in stunning Bombay Ivory and Commercial Red, riding on wide whitewalls with Bel Air hubcaps, and showing only 79 miles since restoration, this is a beautiful truck that would be equally at home in a serious Chevrolet collection, at national shows, local cruise-ins, or simply being admired in the garage. Very nicely restored, beautifully presented, and an excellent example of one of Chevrolet's most recognizable and collectible early pickups. Past & Present Motor Cars was founded in June of 2018 by Jack and Jeff and began in 2 small warehouses in Ocala and Winter Garden, Florida. After seeing the business have steady growth in the first year and a half in March 2020 we moved our Main Location in Winter Garden to a new location that at the time seemed huge. We were a little nervous to take on this larger building and higher rent but we knew we had to THINK BIG. After getting moved in, that was the start of Covid. Just after getting settled in we put signs on the door saying we were only open by appointment. While it was a tough time in the world it actually was a good time to be in the car business especially the classic car business and we continued to see steady growth. After 2 1/2 years in that location we proceeded to acquire 4 buildings and lease a 5th building. This allowed for the operation we have today with 150+ Classic Cars and a Service Department. We are still doing the same thing we have done everyday since we opened, Great Customer Service, Owners that are Available and Accessible for our customers and very happy to talk cars anytime anywhere. We will never grow too big to be real with anyone! Keeping our commitment to our customers through straightforward business and ALWAYS doing the right thing! We are the same people with the same commitment as the day we opened and our slogan is and remains:
