Gateway classic cars of Detroit is proud to present this 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner Pace car. Ford Motor Company gifted the original race-used pace car to The Henry Ford, where it remains today. Ford Motor also produced some 2,000 replicas for sale to the public. This one, was 1 of 2 that was a AAA car at Indianapolis the day of the race. The one used as the pace car can be found at the Henry Ford museum, and this one was the backup car. Each replica included the same features (Ford-O-Matic transmission, power steering, Continental spare tire kit), along with Sungate Ivory paint, and gold lettering. The Ivory and gold continue on the interior with the beautiful vinyl seats. Reportedly, it was the first time a manufacturer offered pace car copies for purchase by the general public, something that is now a well-established tradition in its own right. The serial number confirms its a 110 HP Crestline Sunliner Convertible-all Pace Cars came with the higher-output Flathead V-8. Features include: Am radio, automatic convertible top (not working, must be done by hand) wire wheels (recently restored by Dayton wire wheels with stainless steel spokes).Whether your a Indy 500 fan, pace car collector, or just love Ford sunliners, this car is sure to please!

Our Detroit Showroom opened its doors in June of 2013 and is the fourth addition to Gateway Classic Cars. Detroit has been dubbed as the "Motor City Capital of the World" and has earned that title by being home base for American automobile manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Dodge/Chrysler. Detroit is also home to the largest automotive gathering in the world, The Woodward Dream Cruise which is hosted annually on the 3rd weekend of August.
Our Detroit Showroom is located in historic "Ford Country" just footsteps from the Ford Motor Company World Headquarters building and a short drive to the General Motors World Headquarters located in the Renaissance Building in Downtown Detroit. Henry Ford once roamed these streets with Model T's, the Dodge brothers raced their way around city roads and extinct companies like Oldsmobile and Pontiac have left us fossils reminding us of the greatest era in automotive history, the muscle car era.
