"1952 Ford F3 3/4 Ton HD Long Bed Pickup
The 1952 Ford pickup was the final year member of Ford's ""Bonus Built"" line of postwar trucks which were announced early in 1948 and ran through 1952. ""The Ford F-2 was a 1 ton, regular cab truck that was part of the 1951-1952 Ford F-Series. The F-3 remained the largest pickup in Ford's light duty truck lineup. It shared styling with the others and, like the F-2, received a styling update. The F-3 was offered as a Parcel Delivery, 8' Express, and a 7'-1/2"" platform/stake."" Classic.com
For consignment, a 1952 Ford F3 ¾ ton HD long bed pickup truck showing 495 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck benefits from a fully rebuilt 215ci engine, owned by our consignor since 1990 with only one previous owner on record and at one point, rescued from a scrap yard. It comes to you with service records and history.
Exterior
Even though the Rock Moss Green paint is not original, it's still composed of vintage acrylic lacquer, retaining a good bit of shine along with some well earned patina as we'll learn. The robust ivory colored grille bar stands out like mammoth tusks, contrasting sharply with the dark green while the F3 hood trim provides the only polished metal in profile and FORD on the hood also shines. The front bumper and rear panel are black where Ford pops off the tailgate in ivory paint. The original split rim wheels were replaced with 8-lug, 16-inch wheels painted to match the grille and wrapped in LT rated tires. The bead boards in the bed are nice and present in tongue and groove patterns that eliminate the presence of stainless rails. Imperfections include a gel filler between the fenders and body, various scratches, chips, bubbles, inclusions, painted rough surfaces, a ding on the hood, deglazing on the glass, several rock chips in the windshield, paint removed from the tailgate chains, some surface rust in lieu of paint on the running board, bumper and tailgate, and a mismatched paint repair.
Interior
The outside color fills the inside doors with areas of roughness under the paint on the driver's side. A very nice tan bench seat with brown inserts runs the width cleanly and together with the medium pile tan carpet, provide an inviting cabin. The vintage steering wheel and dash now adorned with Dolphin gauges and green paint are great and the radio free remainder of the dash is simple and tidy. The shifter rises from the floor next to the hand brake and gray vinyl panels line the footwells. Tan materials hemmed in brown finish the sidewalls and headliners and present cleanly.
Drivetrain
Under the hood we have a fully rebuilt 215ci inline six cylinder with a rebuilt 1-barrel carburetor and rated at 101 horsepower. It is backed by a 4-speed non-synchronized 4-speed manual with 1st gear creeper gear. If you were expecting power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning, it will be up to you to add them! Meanwhile, the engine presents cleanly with lots of free space in the bay.
Undercarriage
This ¾ ton exhibits some heavy duty steel underneath that is clean with black undercoating and damp in a few areas with some wayward oil including on the rear differential. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and a single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler that emits a short exhaust pipe terminating under the bed. Leaf spring suspension is used front and rear.
Drive-Ability
We enter the cabin of this former work truck and follow the eleven step process to start the truck provided by our stalwart consignor. Fortunately, our experienced staff have tested non-synchronized transmission before, so won't be members of grinder today. An engaged driver pilots this heavy duty truck around the loop where it performs without issue and we find only the wipers not working. All other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Our consignor let us know that this truck was once a service truck for the Herbert E. Woodruff coal company in nearby Phoenixville, PA. We can only imagine the stories and conversations this truck has witnessed as it made the rounds to deliver coal or make repairs to burners in the 50's. This local piece of Americana is ready to be a part of some new stories in 2026.
