"This 1951 Ford 2-Door Custom ""Shoebox"" is a great-looking old-school hot rod with a long Tennessee history and all the right upgrades to make it a car you can actually get out and enjoy.
This Ford was sold new at a Ford dealership in Tennessee and was owned for many years by the same Tennessee gentleman. During his ownership, he was the one who transformed it into the hot rod you see today, and he even gave the car a name - ""Shirlee,"" after his wife. That kind of long-term ownership and personal history gives this Shoebox a character that you just don't find with every old hot rod.
Under the hood is a Ford 302 cubic-inch V8 topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and backed up by headers and a dual exhaust system. It starts easily, runs strong and has that great V8 sound that fits this car perfectly. The transmission shifts great, making it an enjoyable car to drive around town or take out for a weekend cruise.
One of the best upgrades is the addition of power 4-wheel disc brakes. This old Ford stops the way a properly upgraded hot rod should and gives the driver considerably more confidence than the original 1951 braking system ever could.
The stance is finished off perfectly with a set of 17-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels, giving the Shoebox a classic hot rod appearance without going overboard.
Inside, you'll find a very nice newer cloth interior along with a new headliner. An AutoMeter tachometer has been added along with modern performance gauges so you can keep a close eye on the engine while you're driving.
Overall, this is a very solid driver-quality car that presents very well in person. It isn't trying to be an over-the-top trailer queen-it is the kind of hot rod you can get in, fire up and actually enjoy. It runs strong, shifts great, brakes extremely well and has just the right combination of vintage Ford character and modern drivability.
