The 1950 Ford Anglia Ute (Model A494A). While British manufacturing focused almost entirely on the Anglia family saloon passenger car, the Australian market demanded versatile, car-based utility vehicles, sparking the creation of the 'Coupe Utility' or 'Ute' variant. Technical Specifications - Engine: Originally built with a 933cc (8 hp) inline four-cylinder engine. Starting in 1950, a larger 1172cc (10 hp) inline-four engine became available to buyers. - Transmission: 3-speed manual gearbox. - Chassis: Features a 90-inch (2,300 mm) wheelbase. It shares its upright, pre-war front styling with the British E494A Anglia but incorporates distinct side running boards and an integrated steel rear cargo bed. Because these compact workhorses were built exclusively for the Australian market and never sold in the UK, they are incredibly tough to find today. Surviving models are highly prized globally by collectors for their 'sit-up-and-beg' retro look. In modern enthusiast circles, they are frequently treated to frame-off restorations or modified into unique custom street rods and V8-powered hot rods. This Anglia Ute is a frame off restoration and has been a part of the Duncan Imports collection since 2023.
