The 1947 Plymouth was a continuation of the P-15 Series (1946-1948), utilizing pre-war designs with post-war updates to meet the high demand. It was defined by its "torpedo" or fastback styling options, conservative upright bodywork, and lack of traditional running boards.
It is powered by the 217.8 cubic inch engine. Improvements over previous years included aluminum pistons (replacing wartime cast iron), and a new oil cleaner design, a reuseable cartridge-style oil filter. Known for its reliability, it was also sought after for its durability & comfort.
With many returning veterans needing cars, the 1947 Plymouth was produced in large numbers as Americans returned to civilian life.
Today, the 1947 Plymouth is celebrated by enthusiasts for its historical significance and nostalgic charm.
PAINT & EXTERIOR
Burgundy exterior finish with gray interior featuring 3 speed manual transmission, original 6 cylinder, chrome reverse wheels and dual exhausts. Converted to 12 volt system with new battery. Sounds and drives nice. Muscular stance with 245/60 rear & 195/50 front tires. Does not smoke, leak, or knock. "Thumbs Up" whenever driven. Chrome bumpers look nice.
The burgundy finish has no rust but does have imperfections such as scratches and dings. She was painted many years ago so does show its age here and there.
UPHOLSTERY AND INTERIOR
The seats, headliner and door panels were done at time of restoration. She shows well and seats six adults comfortably, The radio and wipers are nonfunctional as they were not converted to 12 volt. Speedometer & gauges work but fuel gauge is erratic, sometimes work other times not. So school of hard knocks, I keep a gallon jug of gas with me on road trips such as car shows out of the county.
MILEAGE
This car is used on weekends for cruise-ins and car shows. I do not use her as a daily driver.
MECHANICAL
The brakes are standard drum style front & rear. They stop very well. Motor runs good with no problems. The clutch shifts with great response. The transmission goes through gears with ease.
Vehicle was transported from California, that's why CA Title & Tags. This was my brother-in-law's vehicle before I took possession, and I actually like driving her with CA tags. Makes interesting conversations...
