Few automobiles carry both the elegance and the historical depth of this 1936 Jaguar SS 3½ Litre. Representing the early foundation of one of Britain’s most iconic marques, this pre-war Jaguar stands as a true collector-grade example with a story that spans continents and generations.
Delivered new in 1936 to an Australian Army officer stationed in Singapore, this Jaguar quickly became part of a remarkable journey. As the threat of Japanese invasion grew during World War II, the car was carefully relocated and stored in a remote region of Malaysia for protection. After the war, it remained in Singapore before passing to another Australian owner and eventually to an American businessman. When his career brought him back to the United States—and later to Korea—the Jaguar was once again preserved, ultimately benefiting from a comprehensive restoration during his long-term ownership.
Held for 42 years by its American caretaker, the car received a thorough restoration that included its mechanical systems, ensuring both reliability and presentation. Today, it is finished in an elegant black and burgundy color combination that highlights its flowing pre-war lines, while the chrome and brightwork continue to show exceptionally well. The interior has been recently refreshed and presents beautifully, complementing the car’s overall high level of care.
With 82,909 miles shown and equipped with a proper 3-speed manual transmission, this Jaguar delivers an authentic and engaging pre-war driving experience. The engine starts easily and runs smoothly and quietly—just as a well-sorted example should.
Now offered from a respected Rolls-Royce and Jaguar collection, this SS 3½ Litre represents a rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant automobile.
Pre-war Jaguars with their wartime history and long-term ownership are seldom brought to market. This example offers not only beauty and craftsmanship, but a story that simply cannot be replicated.
