1934 Ford 40 Deluxe Fordor Sedan
The 1934 Model 40 was available in an array of configurations; Deluxe Coupe, 3 window coupe, Deluxe Roadster, Victoria, pickup, and the Fordor Sedan. More than 100,000 Deluxe Fordor sedans were produced in 1934 and were priced at $625 at the time.
For consignment, a 1934 Ford 40 Deluxe Fordor Sedan showing 2 miles, but the true miles are unknown in part, due to a non functional odometer. Despite the big production numbers, this is the first '34 Deluxe Fordor we've represented among the dozens of Model 40's that have passed through our Hallowed Halls.
Exterior
Well, if the shape of this car looks familiar, you're probably remembering Bonnie and Clyde who favored this very model for its speed and ability to outrun the law! Even so, their tan version flew under radar compared to this vibrant Cream White edition, coated in two stage paint, a color not available in '34 but looking fantastic on this stately Ford. The cut of the doors gives the illusion they are cradled by the extended fenders, held together visually and structurally by the wide running board. 16-inch wire wheels are painted dark red with contrasting polished center cap and beauty rings and a spare mounted to the back. The grille slats are mirrored by the ascending hood vents while large headlights with embedded markers cap off a stunning front end. Paint and trim are in great condition with some imperfections noted as some edge chips on the engine covers, a few chips, cracks, edge wear, scratches, and one area of discoloration.
Interior
Gray cloth first appears on the door panels in stitch patterned perfection and carpeted lowers, flowing almost seamlessly onto the front and rear benches with precisely the same pattern of gray velour-like upholstery, all in great shape. Our carpeted floor wears modern factory type plastic protection covers while the two spoke black steering wheel fronts a body colored dash with gray faced gauges with dark red needles in an attractive arrangement. A few vintage knobs and the ignition port are all that interrupt the cream colored dash to the right. Not surprisingly, gray velour is used for the headliner and appears in great shape while our tall and narrow trunk is barren and clean.
Drivetrain
And talk about clean! The green engine under the hood is a 221ci flathead V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and good for 90 horsepower. It's backed by a 3-speed manual transmission with power routed to the rear axle and 4.11 gears. The car runs on a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
Super clean underneath too! No moonshine roads for this fine example as it's rust free and dry! Here we have dual exhaust running through HushMaster mufflers while drum brakes are on all four wheels. Transverse leaf spring suspension is utilized front and rear.
Drive-Ability
Bonnie and Clyde must have been very comfortable in their escapades as the interior provides a pleasant cabin and lots of room for booty in the back seat. The V8 provides plenty of power if you're not comparing it to the Shelby GT500, but it must have been fast for the day! Other than the speedometer and odometer not working, all functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Don't let this getaway vehicle get away! And look, you don't have to rob a bank to take this well sorted '34 home with you. It's just a straight, clean car that checks all the boxes and it would be a crime if it did not find a new home soon!
