"1933 Dodge 6 Series DP 4 Door Sedan
""Every line of the new Dodge Six with Floating Power – from the gracefully slanting radiator shell to the alluringly streamlined windshield and arched roof, past strikingly moulded, (sic), fenders, on to the soft, unbroken roundness of rear quarters and backs - is eloquent of power, speed elegance, quality."" From the 1933 dealer brochure.
For consignment, a 1933 Dodge 6 Series DP 4 door sedan showing 1 mile, but the true miles are unknown due to a Delaware title exemption and faulty odometer. That lofty description from the 1993 brochure doesn't begin to describe the showy paint scheme, hunkered posture, and 413 V8 on this street rodded version!
Exterior
Approaching this ride from the side, then nose down rake is accentuated by white flames that travel upwards on the cowl and doors and precipitated by the 15-inch Ridler wheels with staggered size tires. Big drama starts up front where the white radiator shell gives way to the deeply lobed flames that cross the plain of the hood and sweep back on the steel bodied sides, adding motion to a parked car. The Navy Blue paint is the ideal base for this show and is further enhanced by an elaborate pinstripe flourish in back where the stately panels are interrupted by a small, tinted window. Air intakes emerge from the front, as if the engine, which we'll get to, has outgrown its space while a charging ram ornament adds a 3 dimensional bit of extravagance accompanied by the epic Dodge Brothers emblem on the shell. Imperfections include some sizable chips, breaks in the red border of the flames, a ding, rough surfaces and orange peel, scratches, scuffs, rock spray, cracked paint and filler, and edgewear.
Interior
Gray tweed door panels are accented with stylized purple and mauve stripes and the Dodge Ram logo and all four suicide doors present in nice condition, a couple with some light staining on the bottom. Inside, deep gray velour bucket seats occupy the front and the color and design also adorn the rear bench tucked neatly between the walls and providing good space for occupants and room for three. All seats are in great shape. A more modern steering wheel fronts an attractive wood dashboard with painted and pinstriped header and dolphin gauges in the center. A tachometer is perched on the tilt column and an AM/FM/CD radio is embedded in the wood in front of the passenger. Gray carpet floods the floor and is topped by Dodge Ram branded mats, bringing our interior logo count to nine, including the steering wheel. Let's make it an even ten with the giant logo embroidered into the tweed headliner above!
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a dramatic 413ci V8, bored .060 over, creating a 425.1ci engine and rocking a long cross ram intake with dual B&M air intakes on each side. It's backed by an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to a Ford 9"" in the back. Power brakes and power steering is supplied. Lots of red highlights on and around the engine make for a show ready presentation.
Undercarriage
Can't help but notice the Rolling Stones-type tongue painting on the rear differential, a whimsical touch we don't see enough of! Meanwhile, things are driver quality clean, dry and rust free underneath other than some minor surface rust. The dual exhaust is heat wrapped most of the way through and meets a pair of FlowMaster mufflers before exiting through polished, angle cut tips. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in back and suspension consists of a Mustang II front end and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The once elegant family car is now a serious street machine, still comfortable for four people and now likely putting out three or four times the horsepower since leaving the plant in '33. That power is felt on the ride and underfoot and the car tracks straight and true. We note it sits low on the left a bit and that causes the rear tire to rub the fender. In addition, the speedometer and odometer are not working. All other functions however, work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This Dodge devotee does not discriminate as you have some essential Ford elements here and even a Chevrolet tilt column. With a dramatic paint scheme and clean interior, all brands work together to create a fantastic street rod that remains less common than the GM counterparts of the era. We can hear the Mopar folks cheering around the world!
