"1933 Austin 10 Convertible Coupe
What Ford is to America, Austin was to England. The Austin Car Company mass produced affordable automobiles for Britain's masses. Not only were they affordable, they were reliable, and small enough to be driven in urban areas as well as the open air of the countryside. Like Ford with a similar chassis and numerous upper body styles or designs, it was very versatile, and became very popular quite quickly due to these expertly thought out features.
For consignment and fresh out of long term storage, a 1933 Austin 10 convertible coupe. A bit of an anomaly, as it is believed to have been built in England and shipped to Butler, PA, but wears many American Austin parts. Making things a bit more rare is this car has been referred to by a prior owner as an Austin Opal, but produced as left hand drive for America. Austin experts can gladly chime in if any knowledge is out there to clear up the confusion. But what we do know is the engine was treated to new rings and a valve job sometime prior to 2013 and the transmission was rebuilt during that time as well. Read on to learn about this work in progress oddity.

Exterior
After starting out in the UK upon being built, this Austin eventually made its way to Butler, PA. The steel body is covered in light blue, and panels are straight and mostly dent free. Some faults can be seen that have crept in over time, but overall the car has a wonderful patina, and puts on a very nice show. Black takes over for the undulating fenders and running boards and completesthe scaled down Model A look. Gracing the rear of the passengers compartment is a complete and intact top frame, so it shouldn't be too hard to have a new soft top covering made. Its miniature wheelbase, and large black spoked wheels, add to the charm of this miniature motorcar from 1933 UK!
Interior
Our left-hand drive version has a redone bench seat in blue tweed with a broad tuck and roll pattern. A tight squeeze for 2 full size plus adults, but that's part of the charm of this import. A simple dash cluster within a black oval houses a mix of gauges fromvarious manufactures and sits proudly in front of the driver. This all sits within a black steel dash, missing its glovebox door and sprinkled with a few knobs for some extra charm. An original large steering wheel with an aftermarket horn push button fronts the dash. A long shift lever protrudes from the top of the exposed transmission and is well within reach of the driver's left hand. Black wood flooring floats this interior and remains in good condition.
Drivetrain
A gone through with new rings and a valve job 747cc 4 popper is under the long bonnet and is attached to a rebuilt 3-speed manual transmission. Overall the bay presents nicely with a touch of patina, but does show a spider web of added wiring. Out back a 4.40 geared rear axle drives the tires.
Undercarriage
Too narrow for our lift and clearly far too low to the ground for our photographer, we are left with no pictures, so it's just the facts. Mechanical drum brakes are noted on the 4 corners and providing the ride is a transverse leaf spring in the front and quarter elliptical leaf springs are on for the rear.
Drive-Ability
Noted to have ran and been drivable in 2013 this car should be road ready with a few weekends worth of wrenching. All is complete and ready to be tuned back to perfection.
An interesting piece of UK and USA automotive history, and with veryfew examples still existing, a very rare example...So, break out the tools and get this one back on the road.I leave you with ""Chip Chip Cheerio...and all that Rot!""
