1931 Ford Model A Coupe
So you think Model A enthusiasm is fading out? Guys aging out of the Model A hobby? Well, guess again. In our nearly eight years in business, dozens of Model A's have left the mall with a new owner. We must admit, it's been a little surprising to us too, but we're thrilled to have represented so many fine automobiles. They're incredibly varied and versatile and different iterations of 1931 Model As have come through our Hallowed Halls.
For consignment, a 1931 Ford Model A coupe showing 512 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one presents in very nice condition looking very dapper in its period correct configuration.
Exterior
Tan and brown alternative is single stage coverage that's both regal and dramatic with the cabin's paint extending like melting ice cream to form stripes that follow the contours of the rear section and jut out to form spears on the hood. The undulating fenders take on the brown next and they are connected by a running board that's topped with rubber and steel step plate. The body color is shared by the 19-inch wire wheels perfectly wrapped in white wall tires with a covered spare mounted in back, just behind the wooden luggage rack that stows in a vertical position. From the front, you follow a symmetrical design of headlights, cowl lights, and in this case, dual side mirrors while a winged motometer rises from the chrome radiator shell. Imperfections include chipped paint at the base of a fender where it meets the finned engine cover, patches of missing paint from top of both front fenders, and various touched up chips.
Interior
Brown mohair is the material of choice here and it presents on the door panels in fine shape, and on the column tufted bench seat with numerous spots of missing fur. The four spoke steering wheel is perfect and fronts a clean, tan dashboard with typical gauge cluster with grooved metal faceplate dead center. Berber style carpet lines the floor nicely while the driver has a rubber heel pad that takes in the shifter and hand brake. Our headliner is intact and in good shape and so is the brown vinyl rumble seat tucked away in back.
Drivetrain
Plenty of patina on this original looking 201ci inline four cylinder. It's rated at 40 horsepower and is fueled with a 1-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a 3-speed manual sends power to 3.78 gears in back. This car retains its 6 volt system.
Undercarriage
Conditions are not bad for this 94 year old with some typical oil present on the pan and rear differential. Mechanical drum brakes are employed on all four wheels and a single exhaust runs through a stock style muffler terminating before the rear axle. Transverse leaf springs are utilized front and rear.
Drive-Ability
Unfortunately, the car cranks but would not start for us. We also note the horn is not working. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
We'll make a bold prediction here. Model A's will never go out of style and will always have a following. There, we said it and based on how many we've had the honor of representing, and the enthusiasm of new owners when they get the keys, you can take this one to the bank! Meanwhile, we've got another stunning example here ready to make your A-list of new cars!
