For consignment, a 1930 Chevrolet AD Universal 2 door sedan showing 90,788 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. Despite more than 800,000 AD Universals being produced in 1930, this is only the third one to grace the halls of Classic Auto Mall, leading us to wonder, ""how many are left?"".
Exterior
Two tone was a hit, and it looks good here recreated in two stage Mineral Gray Metal Flake over Black Metal Flake and in 1930, metalflake wasn't in the vocabulary unless it was on the factory floor! This one sits low over 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and staggered size tires thicker than most city blocks in 1930! The smooth paint is capped by an eagle hood ornament over the blue Chevrolet vintage logo and painted to match radiator shell. There's a matching visor over the vertical windscreen and a matching spare wheel out back where the split bumper shines bright. Up front, LED turn signals have been cleverly embedded in the light bar at the base of the windshield and the headlights stand proudly perched atop their tie-bar, with another gleaming bumper up ahead. Imperfections include some spider cracks, holes that look intentional, chipped surface on the running board, scuffs, scratches, cracks, and bubbling down low.
Interior
Billet hardware top black vinyl on the door panels which also include column stitched tan cloth which shows some patina. The same color and materials are used on the bucket seats and the rear bench with the cloth covering the sidewalls as well. A four spoke steering wheel fronts a glossy black dashboard with gold rimmed, ivory gauges and a panel of modern toggles. The car has electric windows, power door locks, and an AM/FM/Multi-CD radio. A Lokar shifter emerges from black carpet that covers the floor while patterned tan cloth covers the entire headliner with some style and panache.
Drivetrain
A gleaming, polished 5.7 liter tuned port V8 is up front, putting out 235 horsepower, up nearly 200 from this car's original engine! Fuel injected of course, and mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission sending power to the Ford 9"" in back. The car has headers, power steering, power brakes and runs on a 12 volt system.
Undercarriage
Driver quality conditions are found underneath where the structure is aged but solid. Dual exhaust runs through FlowMaster mufflers on their way to a rear exit. A Mustang II front end with coil overs makes up the front suspension with a 4 link and coil overs in back. Brakes are divided as front power disc and rear power drum.
Drive-Ability
This mix of old and new is a comfortable place to be and that combination also propels this nearly 100 year old car around the test loop like a champ! This is a well running car with good power, straight tracking and solid handling. All functions work as intended and we roll this fantastic flake filled Universal back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
We're not going to say ""rare"" but we certainly don't see a lot of AD Universals which were famously touted as ""a Six in the price range of the Four"". This is a nice street rodded version of the model with a showy worthy powerplant that warrants pedal to the metal adventures!
