"1930 Buddy L Aerial Ladder Firetruck
""Fred Lundahl started the Moline Press Steel Company around 1910 which later changed to the Moline Pressed Steel Company. The company flourished stamping out fenders, door panels and other steel truck and auto parts in an East Moline, Illinois factory. Lundahl did business with International Harvester and many other automobile makers. His son, Arthur Brown Lundahl was born Nov 16, 1915. He was nicknamed ""Buddy L"", as there was already another Buddy living in their neighborhood. This nickname stuck and later became the name of the company when they transitioned to making pressed steel toys. The Buddy L line of toys started in 1921."" Pressedsteelmetaltoys.com
For consignment, a Buddy L Aerial Ladder Firetruck that was restored about 10 years ago. The fresh red paint includes the distinctive decals that were part of the original design including on the grille, under the front seat, and on the rear section. There's also one on the floorboard that has been returned to its former glory. Along with the red steering wheel up front, there are controls including handwheels and levers to rotate the ladder turntable, extend the ladder, and pitch the angle of the ladder and all functions work as intended. Aluminum wheels present in excellent condition while the little brass bell shows a touch of patina with some tarnish. The paint and body are also in excellent condition.
There's nothing that brings out the boys in all of us like vintage toy trucks and cars. Even if you were born after the era of metal toys, their appeal is undeniable, and some of the companies, including Buddy L, are now legendary and their products highly desirable and increasingly rare. We work with a lot of car collectors here at Classic Auto Mall and it's safe to say more than 90% of them also have a number of collectible toy vehicles. And of course, there are those who dedicate their time to collecting only vintage toys and keep the ever growing world of automobilia alive.
