"1929 Ford Model A Roadster
""In 1920, dwindling sales of the Model T pushed Henry Ford to tweak an earlier design and produce a new Ford automobile. The Ford Model A was the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company. The new Model A was designated a 1928 model, was available in four standard colors, and came in a wide variety of styles including a Coupe, the Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, Roadster Coupe, Convertible Cabriolet, Convertible Sedan, Phaeton, Tudor Sedan, Town Car, Fordor, (2 window), Fordor, (3-window), Victoria, Town Sedan, Station Wagon, Taxicab, Truck, and Commercial."" For consignment, a 1929 Ford Model A Roadster showing 611 miles believed to be actual. This is one wild build and it's not a coincidence the current New Jersey license plate reads ""Hot Tub!""
Exterior
The all steel body is adorned with two stage Pleasant Blue paint and if there's ever an appropriate name for a color, that would be it. Pleasing to the eye to be sure and presented on this channeled model taking in not only the body, but both sides of the wheels, visible brake components, radiator shell around the shortened '32 grille, headlight and '37 tail light casing, and yes, the exposed engine block! It's augmented by perfectly polished metalwork, from the front suspension and steering components to the modest bumper out back and windscreen pillars fronting the cabin. The body is low and straight and staggered size tires give it the ideal street rod profile, while the center caps mirror the overall palette mixing polished metal with blue writing. Imperfections include some evidence of filler on a rocker panel and roll pan, a chip on the bottom edge of radiator shell, and a crack in the paint in front.
Interior
White Naugahyde with blue button tufting line the inside walls and mirrored on the top of the bucket seats which continue straight stitching through to the bottoms. A four spoke blue steering wheel leads to an immaculate, body colored dash with, yes, matching gauges in the center. A Lokar shifter rises from the tunnel over light blue loop carpet that continues to the floor to meet blue vinyl walls lining the narrow footwells. That carpet also lines the hot tub shaped open cargo area in back and the entire interior is impeccably clean.
Drivetrain
A show quality 348ci V8 is mounted up front with lots of polished components and the aforementioned blue block. Shiny headers come off the block and head back, terminating just ahead of the cab while three 2-barrel carburetors are capped with chrome filter covers and only the center carb is hooked up. The powerplant is mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to the Ford 8.8"" rear. The car runs on a 12 volt system, it has an aluminum radiator and electric fan.
Undercarriage
Signs of use but still super clean with plenty of the visible polished components from this angle. Disc brakes are used at both ends and suspension is 4-bar with a transverse leaf spring up front and 4-bar with coil springs in back.
Drive-Ability
We sit in the car, but it's so low, it's more like sitting ""on"" the car! It starts up with an authoritative roar from the headers and scoots around the test loop with good power, straight tracking, and literally nothing to get in the way of your visibility of the road. We note some rattling when hitting bumps along with a bit of the infamous death wobble of the front tires, but otherwise its smooth sailing and pleasing turn-ins and all functional items work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're shy, this may not be the ride for you as once in, you're as exposed to the world as much as that V8 up front. But blue looks good on you and the instant feeling of cool is worth the price of admission, especially if you don't mind prying eyes. This is a stunning show car that is guaranteed to turn some heads. It's also such a fresh build that it has yet to hit the show circuit, so you'll be its first steward to do so!
