"1928 Ford Model A Sport Coupe
""Introduced to the public in December 1927, the 1928 Model A was an immediate sensation. Some 10 million people viewed the new vehicle in the first week. The crowds gathered in such numbers that many cities needed to send police to help direct traffic around those who lined up to see the new Ford. While enthusiasm and demand were high, production lagged. The newly installed assembly line for the Model A at the Rouge was not up to full capacity until the middle of 1929, when they were able to produce 9,000 units a day."" Thx to corporate.ford.com
For consignment, a 1928 Ford Model A sport coupe showing 3,366 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. Configured in old school street rod style, this striking, ground hugging green ride is a rolling work of art.
Exterior
White, green and gold is the palette here, beginning with the two stage Pea Green Metallic paint on the body which is embellished with stylized flame detail in gold over the cowl and a two-color pinstripe flourish on the decklid. The vinyl top dramatically takes on three colors with white bordering pleated green and gold bordering the rear window. If that isn't enough coordination for you, check out the wire wheels, 16-inch in front and 15-inch in back, painted green and wrapped in wide white wall tires. Their chrome center caps and beauty rings are a nice complement to the traditional radiator shell up front, chrome headlight buckets and tail light nacelles. There's a visor up top, aerated with a row of holes and adorned with pinstripe accenting. In back, behind the rear wheels, is a pleated panel of white vinyl. Imperfections include chips, most touched up, bubbling, edgewear, evident filler on the cowl, and scratches to the suspension linkage.
Interior
White vinyl keeps things true on the door panels, complete with green accenting and pinstripe designs, both fully intact but showing a touch of age. The seats maintain the pinstripe on white vibe, also in vinyl and also showing some slight discoloration as white vinyl tends to do; a good detail might remedy that. A rear package shelf includes stitched vinyl and a band of green. Up front, a golden metal flake steering wheel fronts a clean, white dashboard with a single, multi function gauge up front, and a tachometer and triple pack under the dash to the right. Once again, pinstripe flourishes appear on the painted dash while green loop carpet covers the floor and driveshaft tunnel from which an 8 ball shifter emerges. The trunk holds a tubular gas tank gussied up with, you guessed it, pinstriping! Old school style at its best!
Drivetrain
The impressive looking exposed engine is a gold colored 239ci flathead V8 with Edelbrock heads and dual 2-barrel carburetors. It's mated to a 3-speed manual transmission routing power the Ford 8"" rear. Headers lead to a short escape of the spent fuel, terminating at the cowl panel.
Undercarriage
Gold, green and clean underneath with disc brakes up front and drums in the back. Suspension consists of a transverse leaf spring up front and a 4 bar with coilovers in back. Unlike the early days, this Model A runs on a 12 volt system.
Drive-Ability
Loud, low and laugh inducing, this is like a carnival ride for adults! It's also quite powerful, tracks straight, and handles well. We note the turn signals don't work when the headlights are on but all other functions work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you've always wanted the ultimate weekend toy and enjoy that street rod experience and waving to onlookers, this is the ride for you! Nothing turns heads quicker than a rod like this and the attractive use of green, gold, and white make this one a stand out, even as it stands low!
