Under the hood sits the dependable 185 cubic inch Inline-6 engine, delivering smooth and steady power through a 3-speed manual transmission. The Model 30-E represented a major step forward for Oldsmobile, featuring the larger 185ci powerplant and, for the first time, drum brakes on all four wheels-an important advancement over earlier models that only utilized rear drum brakes. With its 110-inch wheelbase, the Model 30 offered a comfortable and composed ride that made it one of the premier touring automobiles of its era.
Step inside and you'll immediately appreciate the thoughtful engineering improvements introduced on the Model 30 series. Unlike previous generations, the handbrake and gearshift were relocated to the center of the passenger compartment, allowing the driver to enter from either side of the vehicle with ease. The steering wheel was also mounted on the left side for the first time, marking a significant modernization in automotive design that would soon become the industry standard.
Visually, this Oldsmobile reflects the evolving style of the late 1920s with its rounded hood, forward bulkhead design, and beautifully updated radiator featuring a chrome surround replacing the earlier nickel-plated finish. Adding to its historic significance, the use of Duco automotive lacquer paint-developed by DuPont-helped usher in the first quick-drying, multi-color paint systems designed specifically for the automotive industry.
This particular example carries an even more special distinction: in 2008, this exact vehicle was selected to be part of GM's 100th Anniversary Honorary Heritage Collection, a testament to its authenticity, preservation, and importance in General Motors history. The commemorative plaque documenting this honor is included with the car.
