"1925 Dodge Brothers ¾ Ton Screen Side Truck
""The 1920 Screenside had the same wheelbase as the passenger car, but the chassis was longer, heavier, and sturdier. The first version of the Screenside offered a mesh screen to keep commercial goods in place. Dodge sold a panel version from 1918-1927. A sales brochure from the era claimed 'Dodge Brothers Business Cars offer a definitive solution to the light transportation problem.' Dodge sold 9,064 Screenside vehicles to the public.""
For consignment, a 1925 Dodge Brothers ¾ ton screen side truck showing 31,500 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This truck has been owned by our consignor for 22 years during which meticulous notes were maintained on the work and parts added to the vehicle. Along with a Dodge Brothers repair manual, those notes will come with the Dodge.
Exterior
Dark Blue is a nice change of pace from the typical black of the era and it's here in single stage coverage augmented by some vintage style graphics on the door in a cream color. The 20-inch steel disc wheels provide bold, monochromatic accents to the truck with cream rims that bring it all together. Up front is that standard configuration of the era with fenders that have a bit more defined shape to them than other brands, repeated by the rear fenders and connected by a broad running board. Steel grating and the roof enclose the bed and this truck once held the goods of a Pennsylvania greenhouse. The windscreen is perfectly vertical and connects to the vinyl covered roof that protects occupants and the cargo. This 101 year old has some imperfections of course, and they include crazing, rough surfaces and pitting under the paint throughout, scratches, and scuffs.
Interior
Black fabrikoid door panels show patina with fading, cracking, and overall dryness while the single front button tufted leather bucket seat presents in good condition. The rear bench is heavily padded black leather and also showing in good shape. A wooden four spoke steering wheel fronts a basic dashboard with simple instrument cluster in the center while the shifter rises from the wooden floor which continues into the footwell. While this wood has a more weathered profile, the golden planks that line that back appear clean and divided by blue rails. Wood is also prevalent on the ceiling as the inner framework consists of slats running end to end.
Drivetrain
Up front, you'll find a clean and well maintained 212.3ci L-head four cylinder engine with a 1-barrel carburetor and 35 horsepower, mated to a 3-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear axle and 5.11 gears. The truck runs on a six volt system.
Undercarriage
The clean and simple underside shows minor patina with some typical surface rust and residual oil on the rear differential. Here we have a single exhaust through a stock style muffler and mechanical drum brakes on the rear wheels only. As was standard, leaf springs are utilized front and rear.
Drive-Ability
With a brand new battery in place, the truck comes to life like it's 1925 all over again! It makes its way around the test loop with no glaring faults, and what functionality that is available all operates as intended.
