"1923 Ford T Bucket
In 1959, the most popular detective show on television in the world featured a fast talking parking lot attendant who made up his own vocabulary and drove a flamed Model T hot rod. Although it was also seen in dozens of other movies and TV shows, (plus a full-page photo in the April 29, 1957, issue of LIFE magazine), that particular rod would become known as the Kookie T, but, more importantly, it also signaled a sea of change for hot rods in general."" For consignment, a 1923 Ford T bucket with a title verified 9,859 actual miles, a 19 time award winner over the course of the past nine years. Inside and out, this open air E-ticket ride is one for show and go and the second most enjoyable way to get your hair messed up! Exterior
T buckets are all about the prominence of the exposed components and engine and we'll get to that soon. First, let's look at the dark Emerald Green Metallic paint that colors the bucket, unobstructed by hardware of any kind but replete with orange and light green pinstripe design that not only adorns the bucket, but the radiator shell, headlight buckets, and front axle as well. The black painted frame also keeps things dark so components such as the rear gas tank, massive headers and side pipe, and even the finned rear differential visually pop with even more drama. And talk about drama, check out the 15-inch wheels, heavily staggered with American Racing Torque Thrust in the back holding 31x16.5x15LT tires and front Rocket wheels with dramatically smaller 26x7.50x15 tires, creating the desired effect of a raked rod. An Ed Roth Rat Fink figurine rides the front for some historic context.
Interior
No doors here but beautifully sculpted saddle brown vinyl in a scallop design covers the bench and bucket sides. A wood steering wheel with sport chrome spokes presents to the driver with tach and vintage turn signals unit attached to the column. The smooth matte black dash has five white faced gauges strewn across with easy to follow red needles while a piston topped shifter rises high above after being rooted on the floor. Tan carpet with brown vinyl trim is a tasty addition and brings it all together with brown vinyl lining the footwell.
Drivetrain
On the frame and on center stage is the 350ci V8 with polished parts galore including velocity stacks on the three 2-barrel carburetors over the Offenhauser intake and double hump heads. ATH350 3-speed automatic is mated to the engine and sends power to the Ford 9 inch in back with 3.70 gears and Positraction. The engine throws off huge polished headers that smoothly transition to side pipes and finned valve covers are added for additional eye candy. Disc brakes have drilled rotors up front and the rear has drum brakes. An electronic parking brake is also on board.
Undercarriage
As is more often the case with T buckets, the underside is show quality with painted and polished components competing for attention, it's fantastically clean and free of surface rust. A drop or two of oil on the flywheel cover are likely residual while the rest of the underside is dry. Suspension is configured as transverse leaf springs up front and ladder bars with coilovers in back, all clean and all visible!
Drive-Ability
A pump of the gas and a turn of the key and the engine fired with a raucous bellow from the cavernous side pipes. It's one of those cars that yanks car specialists from their desks and into the back to see what all the commotion is about. That said, the car has obvious acceleration and with those big sidewalls, provides a decent ride. This is a fair weathered car of course, and the minimalistic windshield does what it can to buffer the wind, but only a little better than a motorcycle. All functions operated as they should on this adult toy. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This T bucket is an E-ticket! It's obvious that this show winning car represents many hours of hard work and dedication and all that saves you from having to do the work and just enjoy the rewards. This is a stunning hot rod that can be proudly driven and shown or simply added to a collection for what it is, rolling art! If you've been waiting for the right T bucket, this one is worthy of consideration.
