“Porsche Dunlop/Shell 962 #17” 48 x 30 inches, acrylic media on canvas.During the early years of its career, the Porsche 962 became one of the most dominant cars in motorsport, and its efficiency and reliability led it to be a car much in demand among private teams. The championships won by teams campaigning the 962 included the World Sportscar Championship title in 1985 and 1986, the IMSA GT Championship every year from 1985 to 1988, the Interserie championship from 1987 until 1992, all four years of the Supercup series (1986 to 1989), and the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship from 1985 until 1989, and it was also very dominant in the American IMSA series well into the ’90s. The 962 also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1986 and 1987, with Derek Bell, Al Holbert and Hans-Joachim Stuck at the wheel on both occasions, and later winning under the Dauer 962 badge in 1994.

The C8 is the eighth generation of the Corvette sports car manufactured by American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet. It is the first rear mid-engine Corvette since the model’s introduction in 1953The Stingray uses a new version of the LS-based GM small-block engine derived from the C7 Stingray’s LT1, now called the LT2.[14] The Z06 uses a new naturally aspirated 5.5 L V8 producing 670 hp at 8,400 rpm and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Stingray is offered with an 8-speed dual-clutch automated transmission.

“Porsche 917 #23” 48 x 32 inches, acrylic media on canvas. The Porsche 917 is a sports prototype race car developed by German manufacturer Porsche to exploit the regulations regarding the construction of 5-liter sports cars. In 1970 it gave Porsche its first overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a feat it would repeat in 1971. It would be chiefly responsible for Porsche winning the International Championship for Makes in 1970 and 1971. Power came from a new 4.5-liter air-cooled engine, a combination of two of Porsche’s 2.25L flat-6 engines used in previous racing cars. The ‘Type 912’ engine featured a 180° flat-12 cylinder layout, twin overhead camshafts driven from centrally mounted gears and twin spark plugs fed from two distributors. the original 4.5-liter engine, which had produced around 520 bhp in 1969, had been enlarged from 4.9 liters (600 bhp) to 5 liters and produced a maximum of 630 bhp.

The RSR Turbo, introduced just a decade after the 911 entered production, is now recognized as one of the most fascinating, influential models in the history of the Porsche marque. These state-of-the-art machines successfully competed against prototype sports racing cars during the 1974 racing season and were instrumental in the development of subsequent turbocharged 911 racing cars. The RSR Turbo was also the first turbocharged car to run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, ushering in an exciting new era in motorsports. Every Porsche that has won Le Mans since this models introduction in 1974 — from the 936 to the 919 Hybrid — successfully utilized turbo technology.”

 

Greg Stirling lives and creates in San Jose, California. He recently became a member of the Guild of Motoring Artists. His work has been featured in numerous automotive art auctions. He started painting in 1980. After going through three decades of self-guided exploration in abstract expressionism, the art of the 20th century, and post-war impressionism, he arrived at the door of realism. To continue his area of study, Greg experimented with new techniques, media as well as innovative processes and concepts. Mr. Stirling is also an engineer, kinetic metal sculptor, and automotive enthusiast.

This process is a combination of digital art and AI that is then hand overpainted and highlighted using acrylic paint, pencil, pastel, acrylic air brush, and acrylic medium.
