Survivor 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40!
The current owner purchased this iconic 1978 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser in 2005. Renowned for its legendary durability, go-anywhere capability, and timeless design, the FJ40 has earned a special place in the hearts of adventurers and vintage car enthusiasts worldwide.
The current owner has made several updates, including replacing the brakes, radiator, and repairing a leak in the transfer case. The vehicle has been stored indoors for at least the past 19 years. The Dune Beige paint is believed to be original and remains in great condition, though there are a few bubbles above the rear driver’s side taillight, as shown in the photos. Additionally, there are tiny nicks in the paint on a small area (1 inch x 2 inch) on the back door above the license plate. These are barely noticeable but are documented in one of the photos. The vehicle is solid metal throughout every panel.
This 1978 FJ Cruiser is powered by a 258 cubic inch straight-six engine, generating 135 horsepower. The power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which includes high-range 2WD, as well as both low and high-range 4WD with manual overdrive. The truck is equipped with manually locking front hubs. It features front hydraulic disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The rear suspension consists of springs with a live axle, while the front suspension is semi-elliptic. Other notable features include side mirrors, ambulance-style rear doors, a rear step, and a rear tire carrier.
Inside, the 1978 FJ40 Cruiser offers a simple yet functional interior designed for durability and usability. The cabin includes vinyl seats, a basic instrument panel, and large control knobs for easy operation. The speedometer, odometer, temperature, and amperage gauges all function properly. The vehicle is equipped with two fuel tanks, though only one fuel gauge works, and the oil pressure gauge is non-functional. Additional features include windshield wipers, a cigarette lighter, a heater, and the original AM radio, which all work as expected, though the radio antenna has been broken off as shown in the photos. While the steering wheel is not original, the vehicle has been updated with power steering and a tilt wheel. The original interior door panels are clean, black vinyl, as are the front bucket seats and rear jump seats. The headliner is the original white perforated material, and the sunroof operates as it should. The seals around the perimeter of the roof appear intact and functional, though the current owner has never taken the vehicle out in the rain. The hardtop can be removed as designed.
The vehicle is also equipped with non-original sporty chrome wheels and off-road tires. Apart from the wheels, tires, steering wheel, brakes, and radiator, the vehicle is believed to be all original. The owner has documentation for these replacement items.
