The 1929 Ford Model A Speedster was a stylish and sporty variation of Ford’s iconic Model A, reflecting the spirit of adventure and excitement of the Roaring Twenties. Here’s a detailed description:
Exterior:
The Model A Speedster typically featured a stripped-down, minimalist design, emphasizing lightweight construction and aerodynamic styling.
The bodywork was often custom-built, featuring a sleek, low-slung profile with a shortened windshield and a distinctive rakish stance.
The front end was characterized by a classic radiator grille, flanked by large, round headlights, giving the Speedster a purposeful and aggressive look.
The rear of the vehicle was often left open, with a minimalistic tail section or a small racing-style fin, further enhancing its sporty appearance.
Interior:
Inside the cockpit, the Model A Speedster offered a no-frills driving experience, with a focus on performance and functionality.
The seating configuration typically consisted of a single bench seat or bucket seats, providing a snug yet comfortable fit for the driver and a passenger.
The dashboard was simple and uncluttered, featuring essential gauges and controls for monitoring speed, engine temperature, and fuel levels.
Performance:
Powering the Model A Speedster was Ford’s reliable and efficient inline-four engine, which was renowned for its durability and smooth operation.
While specific modifications varied depending on the builder, many Speedsters were equipped with performance enhancements such as upgraded carburetors, exhaust systems, and high-compression cylinder heads, boosting horsepower and torque output.
The lightweight construction of the Speedster, combined with its modified engine and aerodynamic design, contributed to spirited performance and nimble handling, making it a joy to drive on both city streets and country roads.
Customization:
One of the defining characteristics of the Model A Speedster was its customizability, allowing owners to personalize their vehicles according to their preferences and tastes.
Custom bodywork, paint schemes, and interior upholstery were common, reflecting the individuality and creativity of each builder.
Some Speedsters featured additional performance upgrades such as racing-inspired suspension systems, brake improvements, and lightweight alloy wheels, further enhancing their performance capabilities.
Legacy:
The 1929 Ford Model A Speedster holds a special place in automotive history as a symbol of innovation, style, and adventure during the golden age of motoring.
While relatively few original examples may remain today, the spirit of the Model A Speedster lives on through the efforts of enthusiasts and restoration specialists who continue to preserve and celebrate these iconic vehicles, ensuring that their legacy endures for generations to come.

@Speed.. it does not have synchromesh gears. It shifts conventionally
@Speed.. thanks for your questions. When we acquired this incredible piece of history, we did not get too much in terms of details on the vehicle. I would assume that the transmission has been worked on, but I can or cannot state it is the original transmission that the car had in it when produced. Braking and Engine are original to the car.
Does the transmission have synchromesh gears? In other words must the driver double clutch?
Is the transmission the original one?
Does it have Hyd. Brakes ? Inserted engine?
