The History of Eleanor

Not all of us are old enough to remember that the original Eleanor from the 1974 film fast and the furious but we all know the sexy silver Eleanor from the year 2000 remake of this classic movie. In the original movie the car was a 1971 Ford Mustang Sportsroof dressed up to make it look like a 1973. For the original movie 2 cars where used for filming and one was modified for the stunt driving in the final chase and surprisingly the car survived the stunts including a 128 foot jump and an impact with a light pole which was very impressive. Both of these scenes you can see in the original movie.

In 1995 Disney licenced the rights from Denice Halicki to do a remake of Gone in 60 Seconds that would be released later in year 2000 produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The beautiful color is a dupont pepper grey on this 1967 Fastback that is depicted as a Shelby GT500, the customized body kit designed by Steve Stanford gave the cars a look of their own.

12 cars where used in the filming, 9 of them were shells and 3 were full builds that were completely functional. Apparently 7 of the vehicles made it through the filming. 3 of which have been sold with hefty price tags.

• $216.000 in a 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale Arizona.
• At the COYS International auction in 2012 one sold for 95,000 Pound but later offered at Mercum’s Austin Texas auction in 2014 which did not meet the reserve of $380,000.
• On May 18^th 2013 the one that was named the main hero car and was used for photographs was sold for a whopping $1,000,000 USD.
