"2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350
Ford served up a tasty appetizer to the 2020 GT500 with this track ready but road worthy GT350. What was new for 2019? Quite a bit, including improved aerodynamics, updated brakes, stability control, and steering. Car and Driver raved about the 5.2 iter flat plane crank V8, saying they preferred it over the GT500 and said it had a ""hair-raising soundtrack, tenacious grip, and pure unbridled driving pleasure."".
For consignment, a 2019 GT350 with a title verified 8.309 actual miles in an exclusive color and offering more creature comforts than Chuck Cantwell could have possibly dreamed about in the 60's. Aside from the safety features, the sound system and infotainment capabilities will tempt you to drive this every day, but you'll probably save it for special occasions. And why not, it's a special car.
Exterior
Ford Performance Blue, (1 of 563), helps identify from the other side of town and the white stripes hammer its heritage home. Its fascia is fierce and wide and has the Shelby snake and name on the splitter, so if you see it in your rear view mirror, move right! The black mesh grille creates a gaping tunnel to suck in air needed to propel this 526 horsepower naturally aspirated serpent. Fender vents extend nearly the height of the body itself and rocker splitters, also in black, are there for aerodynamics. The tail, which is what most adversaries will see, is a cornucopia of racy aggressiveness. The rear spoiler adds downforce, and the lower air diffuser houses four exhaust tips that may have been trimmed from the Alaska pipeline. The 19-inch black wheels are wrapped in sticky 35-series Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires, and we concur with the consignor, they will need to be replaced right away. Minor flaws include scuffs on the front chin, damage to the lower diffuser, and a pretty good set of paint scratches on the lower right rear near the side marker are the only notable flaws.
Interior
In case you need a reminder, Ford Performance is emblazoned on the door sill. Upon entry, you'll move past beautifully textured door panels in black molded plastic, brushed metal accents, and suede inserts. Ebony leather and suede front bucket seats are well bolstered but understated for a car of this caliber. The back buckets repeat the pattern and are compact versions of the front. The thick suede covered steering wheel is replete with control buttons, allowing the driver to alter the radio, suspension, cruise control, and information readouts with two thumbs. A tachometer and speedometer flank a center electronic information screen. Oil pressure and oil temperature gauges are located in the center, just above the voice activated touch screen with B&O premium sound system that blasts out to 12 speakers. The dash panel is carbon fiber, and the dash plaque lists the individual chassis number. The meaty shifter is ringed in red and heads a center console that includes a storage bin and armrest. The black carpet and headliner, like the rest of the interior, are in excellent condition. Gray flannel finishes the trunk which is like new.
Drivetrain
And now we get to the heart of the snake. The flat plane 5.2 liter Voodoo V8 with electronic fuel injection. Flat plane cranks, in short, have less weight, less inertia, smaller size, and increased acceleration. The 6-speed manual transmission is a Tremec TR3160 which sends power to the rear wheels and a Torsen differential with 3.73 gears. Brembo brakes occupy the power discs on all four corners.
Undercarriage
All looking very clean and stock underneath including brake and suspension components. The dual exhaust follows a center line down the length of the car and enters a stainless steel muffler before blasting out of the four polished tips. Independent suspension is found front and rear with MacPherson struts and multilink coil springs, respectively. The car is equipped with launch control and line lock, as well as the MagneRide adaptive suspension system. We note some oil by a front access panel in the plastic cover.
Drive-Ability
Since the tires lack adequate tread, we slithered out of the garage with the car. This is practically a new car, so we just want to make sure it runs and functions as expected. No disappointments here, but as the consignor notes, the check engine light comes on and the dealer evaluated it and explains it in a service record that is included in the photo section.
All told, 2,789 '19 Shelby GT350's were built so you would be entering a rather exclusive club with an enthusiastic following and the Ford Performance group as a resource and purveyor of great Shelby events. This one has streetable horsepower and more amenities than we could list here and is going to provide miles of smiles for its next owner. Is that you?
