"2014 Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3 Aluminator Coupe
There are a few names synonymous with performance Mustangs; Saleen, Steeda, Shelby, and the house that Jack built...Roush. And what Jack has done in terms of options is create stages, different levels of modification that go from simple cosmetic and mechanical enhancements to full on engine builds that are coupled with suspension, exhaust, supercharging, and design in the King of the Hill, the Stage III.
For consignment, perhaps the ace on top of the king of the hill, the 2014 Roush Stage III Aluminator. This blue metallic beauty has just 26,493 title verified actual miles and as we'll learn, pumps out an astounding, ground pounding, awesome sounding 675 horsepower! This car is so special it just has to scream it out. It says Roush on this car in 24 places, has a Stage III badges in 7 places, a Roush R in 4 spots and the best part of all Jack's real handwritten signature in 2 places. For the Mustang or Roush enthusiast, this is an absolute low production show piece.
Exterior
Lowered onto 20-inch Roush wheels, the Deep Impact Blue Metallic pony is immediately set apart from mere pedestrian Mustangs. The Magnum Gray stripe kit contrasts with the blue and adds a track car ambiance to the appearance. A wide hood scoop is flanked by rear facing heat extractor vents, all fronted by a custom grille with horizontal slats and a Stage 3 emblem. The door handles, mirrors, and quarter window covers are body colored and the rear wing reaches way back to grab some downforce. Jack's printed signature is on the rear valance which also houses the mock gas cap with the distinctive black and red Roush ""R"". The trapezoid shaped exhaust tips fit the sculpted openings of the rear diffuser. To blend all the black and blue in the back, the taillights are trimmed in black with clear LED inserts. It all looks very, very good and it's obvious this car has been pampered. We note a small scratch, one that's been touched up, a chip near the wheel arch, and some curb rash on the chrome Roush wheels.
Interior
We open the door and are greeted with standard Charcoal door panels that do not veer from the GT. Our attention turns to the Recaro bucket seats which are heavily bolstered and gapped for a racing harness. The adjustments are manually controlled which likely saves some weight. The rear seats are split buckets with similar bolstering on a narrower scale but with tall headrests which will catch your cranium when this car accelerates. The Roush gauges are white faced with bold numbering and backlit in blue. They surround a digital information screen that is black when the car is off. The center stack is standard GT with a screen that displays an AM/FM/CD radio that is XM and Bluetooth capable and navigation. On the brushed aluminum dash on the passenger side is the printed Jack Roush signature and a handwritten signature as well. Along with the engraved metal medallion on the center console with the American flag, Jack shows his pride of country by adding USA to his signature. Also in the center console is the short throw shifter with cueball like knob. The charcoal low pile carpet and headliner are in minty condition as is the gray flannel lined trunk.
Drivetrain
As we mentioned this is the top of the food chain. An aluminum block 5.0 liter Coyote V8 with a 2.3 liter TVS RoushCharger connected to a high efficiency intercooler lurks under the scooped and extractor equipped hood. To fuel this herd of horses is electronic fuel injection and to regulate the air, a 110mm MAF and twin bore 60mm throttle body. An MT82 6-speed manual transmission feeds back to the Ford 8.8 rear with 3.73 and TracLoc gearing. Naturally, power disc brakes are on all four hooves...er...wheels which carry 275/35ZR20 tires with a late 2019 date code.
Undercarriage
The Roush tuned dual exhaust terminates at two Roush mufflers which then send exhaust through the tips. Roush performance suspension includes MacPherson struts in the front with coil springs and a panhard bar on the 3-link in the rear. Some very minor surface rust underneath most notably on the driveshaft but overall very clean and unblemished.
Drive-Ability
""It's not my car....it's not my car...it's not my car"". I had to repeat this mantra so I wouldn't put my foot into the gas. I kept it cool, rowing through just enough gears to get it going and test all functions. It's actually mild mannered at slow speeds but that supercharger is always poised with power just an ankle rotation away. It performed well and all functions operate as you would expect on a 26k mile vehicle. And it sounds like a herd of stallions.
This is not your average Mustang. It's been massaged by one of the top Ford massage parlors in the world, Roush Performance. And while others opt for more mild versions of the shop's rub downs, this one goes all out and pushes darn close to 700 horsepower. All we can say is, if you're looking for the deep tissue treatment that you'll feel in every muscle of your body and brain, this is the Roush to buy.
