"2007 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado Short Bed Pickup
In 2007, if you wanted a performance vehicle from Chevrolet, you had your choice of the Trailblazer SS with its 395 horsepower 6.0 liter LS engine, the Silverado SS, or the Impala SS with a 5.3 liter V8 pumping 303 horsepower. Detuned versions of these engines were available in the standard 1500 Silverado and the 6.0 liter had respectable power, but nearly 20 years later, the short bed pickups are proving to be great platforms for high performance conversions.
For consignment, a 2007 Silverado with 6.0 liter LQ9 engine that's been beefed up and modified to create quite a runner. Other than the 20-inch Dub wheels and 285/50R20 tires, you probably wouldn't give this truck a second look. Then it blasts by you with a ""definitely not stock"" exhaust note and you realize what a relative sleeper this truck is.
Exterior
If the State Troopers had an undercover truck, it might look something like this. Bathed in Dark Ming Blue, its stealthy look is accentuated by black features that look great with the dark blue. The grille bowtie has been blacked out, the wheel arch flares are black, the wheels are black, the tonneau cover is black, and the windows are tinted. It all looks great and aggressive, but it still flies under the radar. The paint is relatively clean, the panels and gaps are straight, and the chrome elements of the bumpers are in good condition. The tonneau is tight and in good shape and the bed is Rhino-guarded and clean. We note a slight dent in the front bumper, numerous scratches and scuffs, dings, rock chips, and some rust at the base of the tailgate. The left rear taillight lens got doinked at some point and has a small chunk missing.
Interior
Standard GM interior here with charcoal molded plastic door panels with basic features including storage bin. We note the windows are old school crank style, and that probably saved a few pounds! The split bench leather seat is also charcoal colored and has a middle armrest that acts as seat back for a third occupant when in the upright position. We note a small tear on the passenger side seat near a seam and a nearby spot of peeling vinyl. The standard steering wheel has finger grooves which always come in handy, and the dash has a series of black faced gauges with orange needles and the green digital readout synonymous with GM's of this era. Things get interesting in the center stack where we find an aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM/CD with screen display. Below that, the heat and AC controls. There is a handle on the passenger side for extra bracing when needed. A shifter is cut into the transmission hump and has a white ball grip. The floor is lined with a rubber mat and the headliner is peeling on the edges fairly substantially.
Drivetrain
Here we find a fuel injected 6.0 liter LQ9 V8 with lots of goodies. A Current Performance wiring harness leads the pack where we also have a Melling oil pump keeping things well lubricated. A Howards .525 lift hydraulic roller camshaft actuates the valves in the new cylinder heads via new pushrods. The fire within is lit by MSD ignition, coils and wires. It's recently been tuned by K&P Performance. A new Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission is in place and features a McLeod twin disc clutch and Atomic clutch box. Power is sent to the rear wheels where a 10-bolt rear houses 4.11 gears, also new. Power brakes are equipped with discs in front and power drums are in the rear.
Undercarriage
The driver quality appearance is highlighted by a newer custom cat back system entering stainless steel mufflers and exiting just behind each rear wheel. The driveshaft is also new as is the shiny rack and pinion. A polished rear diff cover adds a little more bling while other parts of the axle, frame, and suspension pieces show some surface rust. Things are relatively clean and dry otherwise.
Drive-Ability
You gotta love electronic fuel injection, which seems to always work when it should and the truck started up with a rumble of the exhaust. Into gear we went and down a small ramp to our test loop. The truck has a commanding stance with those 20-inch wheels and a good ride thanks to the beefy tires. The fronts are from late 2020 and the rears have a date code of early 2019. The engine is responsive, and the gears shift with authority and feel quick. No complaints about the brakes and everything else seemed to be in good working order.
Here's a solid truck with a stealthy look and a bit of a beast under the hood. A lot of new parts have been added to this truck recently so your only big expense will be gas as you throttle this around town on a regular basis. It is fast, fun, and comfortable, and bonus...it has a bed so you can haul stuff! So, no doubt you'll want to enjoy it.
