"2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Where does the Z28 designation come from? It is a designation that all Chevy lovers relate to a Camaro designed to offer better speed and performance. It is a ""special performance package"" offered by the company, but to the people in the production lines, it is a simple three-digit code that tells them it is a different trim level than the original Camaro being assembled. What does the Z stand for? It is an option ""package"", and as for the 28 it was the next sequential number when the option package was defined. Sorry I was also very excited to find out then when I did...MEH!
For consignment, a consignor stated 1 of 92 built 2002 Z28 Camaro with these options, including the Sunset Orange paint, 6-speed manual, T-tops, factory Hurst shifter, and a 3.42 axle. It also has a paltry 45,367 title verified miles clocked on her, looks great, and runs even better. The car comes with its original window sticker and owners manual. Also nearly every suspension component has been upgraded with UMI components including subframe connectors and we can't forget about the sweet sound of the LS projected through the SLP exhaust. Read on and get ready to ride off into your own Sunset, (Orange).
Exterior
The Europeans have invaded!!! The Europeans have invaded!!! Yes this car has succumbed to the aero design with built in headlights, a rounded nose, neoprene bumper, clean side panels, and a snappy nearly built in rear spoiler. Body panels with well minded gaps are bathed in rarely seen Sunset Orange Metallic factory applied paint. Some black accenting within the front grille, badging edging, side view dual mirrors, and the black roofline which is also a smoked glass 2 panel removable T top, provide ample contrast to the orange. A large greenhouse glass makes its way to the spoiler and trunk deck which includes the glass for a hatchback operation. Stylized ""aero"" tail lighting is on the rear roll panel and floats just above a neoprene body matching rear bumper. 16-inch mulit-spoke wheels are in with 245/50R16 tires from the 30th week of 2016.
Interior
Inside high backed Ebony Congo-Lexington broadcloth buckets are in front. In back is a 2 plus 2 rear bench which in reality is 2 single buckets divided by the hump. The factory dash is in and also presents in Ebony as does the center console which melts down and rearward from the central dash. Here it has the factory installed Hurst floor shifter, a storage glovebox, and a large cup holder and ash receptacle. The door panels are also in Ebony but use molded plastic and Congo-Lexington cloth for their coverings with built in black panels for the handles and window toggles. Ebony carpeting floods the floors, and above nice tight smoked panels are leak free for the T tops. A shout out to the hatchback area which is very spacious, very Ebony carpeted, and very clean.
Drivetrain
A lift of the hood and you'll be seeing orange, and some black with the engine in its 5.7 Liter LS1 V8 format. It is fed by EFI via a SLP air box and a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission on the back. Way back is a 10 bolt 3.42 Positraction rear axle. A SLP Power Flo dual to single to dual outlet exhaust helps with the exhaling and keeping the corners well carved is a BMR strut tower brace.
Undercarriage
Factory and showroom clean with no rust, just orange overspray on the floor pans and framing. Independent coil spring for the front suspension and a torque arm and coil springs for the rear suspension but all fully updated. Now appearing on the front suspension are Strano SP141 springs and a new UMI sway bar. For the rear suspension a UMI adjustable panhard bar is now on along with UMI adjustable rear lower control arms, more Strano SP141 springs, another UMI sway bar and Koni single adjustable shocks are noted all around. Power disc braking is on all 4 corners, and we note the addition of UMI subframe connectors keeping the chassis nice and stiff. All is looking as well as the topside on this example.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and wonderful runner. Bias free braking, and handling like its a freight train on rails. Enjoying the stretch of nice Fall weather I took the T-tops out for my drive and I must say, the open air, wind in your hair experience is a must do in this car at least once in your life.
Well kept, and according to our consignor a very low production amount with these options. Now with the benefit of some seriously upgraded suspension and a killer exhaust ta boot. Do not let this big fish get away, as low mileage and well cared for examples aren't easy to come by. Turn the key and go go go!
