Burnyzz American Classic Horsepower
1 ASPEN ROAD
OCALA, FL 34480
The model year 1996 marked the end of the road for not only the Impala SS, but all of General Motor's B and D body (Fleetwood, Roadmaster, Caprice) full size body on frame vehicles. The Impala SS was the result of an idea crafted by GM's Jon Moss and his Performance Division at General Motors. A throwback to the days of big block full size muscle sedans, the Impala SS was well received with the automotive press and buying public.as well. Based off of the 9C1 Police Pursuit model of the Caprice, the Impala SS was treated to a monochromatic paint finish, a rear decklid spoiler, blacked out grille, and gorgeous 17 polished aluminum wheels wrapped in sticky BFGoodrich CompT/A radials. Under the hood was a 5.7L LT1 V8 borrowed from the Corvette and slightly detuned making 260HP and 330lb ft of torque. Bolted to a 4L60E four speed automatic and putting power through a limited slip rear axle with 3.07 gears, the Impala SS was good for 0-60mph in 7.0 seconds flat and through the quarter in just a touch over 15 seconds. Bilstein DeCarbon shock absorbers and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS worked in concert with the HD suspension package to keep this 4200lb bruiser under control around corners and under braking. This type of performance was unheard of for a fwo ton four-door sedan at the that didn't have an M badge on the back. On the inside, the Impala SS was a fully equipped luxury car that was just a seat heater or two away from being a Cadillac. Power windows, power locks, power leather covered bucket seats, automatic headlamps, ice cold air, and a premium AM/FM/CD stereo are all present and accounted for. The complete package started at a mere $22,500 MSRP in 1994, talk about a bargain! Chevrolet division sold them as fast as Arlington production could crank them out. Then, in the classic GM tradition of canceling a car just when they got it right, the plug was pulled, and the full-size rear wheel drive Impala SS was consigned to the history books. The 1996 model Impala SS cataloged for sale here is highly original with only the addition of a K&N air intake, performance exhaust and tinted windows. Recent maintenance includes new tires, Opti-Spark replacement, new water pump and harmonic balancer. It is on a clean Florida title and comes with the original owner's manual, locking lug nut kit, and two sets of keys. These cars continue to become rarer by the day thanks to the limited production run and natural attrition as these cars have a tendency to be driven the way you'd expect they would be.
