Seeking a classic flagship convertible that is built like a brick structure? This mid-1990s Mercedes-Benz more than fits that bill. This low mileage example is showing just 27xxx miles.
Built in Bremen, Germany in August 1995, the previous owner's has owned and garaged the car since 2016. Dressed in black (code DB-040) with gray lower body cladding and a new black cloth power-folding soft top and a black, removable hardtop with heated back glass, are all in very good overall condition. The engine bay is very tidy while the cargo area is in good order. The dark gray bumpers look great and fit tightly to the body.
It underwent an pre-delivery inspection (PDI) on September 26, 1995, by Loeber Motors in Lincolnwood, Illinois. The car was initially registered in Illinois on November 2, 1995, and remained there until the previous owner bought it in 2015.
This big Benz rolls on Continental Extreme Contact radials, size 255/40ZR18 in front and size 275/35ZR18 in back and all four are mounted on highly desirable AMG Monoblock wheels. The wheels and tires are all in very good order. The front suspension has independent damper struts with separate coil springs and gas-pressurized shock absorbers, triangular lower control arms with anti-dive geometry and stabilizer bar. The ASR and ABS Light is on. The rear suspension independent five-arm multilink with separate single-tube gas-pressurized shock absorbers and coil springs, geometry for anti-lift, anti-squat and alignment control and stabilizer bar.
Under the gas-strut counterbalanced hood is a 6.0L DOHC, 48-valve V-12 engine (code M120). Backing this motor is a four-speed automatic transmission (4G-TRONIC). This car has a long list of creature comforts electronic climate control, cruise control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, power locks, power sideview mirrors, power seats with heat and memory and power antenna. Service in January 2020 included replacing the drive belt and the battery.
Safety features include dual front air bags, acceleration skid control (ASR) and anti-lock brakes.
Other features include an adaptive suspension damping system, headlight washers and wipers and fog lights. In front, Mercedes' famous Monowiper is there. There's a deployable roll bar for the cabin in the event of a rollover accident.
Inside, the two-tone gray leather interior is in overall great condition. The matching gray carpet looks great, as does the four-spoke steering wheel. The inner door liners and dashboard, complete with a full array of gauges, still looks new, as does the center console and shift lever. There are burl wood accents on the doors and center stack. In the dash is a Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck and a CD changer.
The car underwent maintenance intervals at 1,832 miles on August 21, 1997; 2,856 miles on February 18, 1999; 3,528 miles on August 20, 2001; 4,291 miles on January 28, 2004; 6,770 miles on August 19, 2005; and 17,064 miles on August 7, 2008.
In 1994, cars for the 1995 model year had minor updates for the car:
Odometer switched from mechanical to digital
Option for portable cell phone with voice activated dialing
Clear front turn signal indicators for US SPEC models
Bose stereo now standard, rear speakers and subwoofer
Competition to this Benz droptop in 1995 was: Acura's NSX-T, Chevrolet's Corvette Convertible, Ferrari's 348 Spider and Porsche's 911 Carrera 4 Convertible.
Documentation includes a black, zippered binder with original owner's manual, original operation guide, original maintenance booklet, original car care guide, original 1995 dealer service directory, original operation guide and more.
