1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA For Sale - Only 7,631 Miles, Build Sheet, Owners Manuals, GM Docs LMC Is very proud to offer for sale this 1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA In 1987 Pontiac released the Firebird Trans Am GTA as their new halo model. kit. The name GTA” stands for “Gran Turismo Americano,” an indication that this was the car in the Pontiac model range intended to compete with the GT cars coming out of Europe. It was based on the pre-existing Firebird Trans Am but it came with the 5.7 liter (350 cubic inch) Tuned Port Injection (TPI) V8 that was being used in the Corvette. The one key differences between the Corvette and Firebird versions was that the Corvette heads were aluminum and the Firebird heads were cast iron. This engine would be mated to the TH-700R4 automatic transmission which came as standard, air conditioning was included as were newly styled seats with inflatable lumbar and side bolsters, a GTA horn button, special badging, the WS6 performance handling package, and perhaps most noticeably, a color-colored body. This 1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA was sold new at Plaza Pontiac Buick Ltd. on September 27th, 1989 finished in 40U White paint with a medium gray luxury cloth interior. The GTA was marketed as a separate Firebird model and was elevated to top-of-the-line status. The list of standard equipment was long and included power windows, air conditioning, power antenna, power mirrors, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, four-wheel disc brakes, WS6 performance suspension, limited slip rear axle, touch-control AM/FM/Cassette with equalizer and steering wheel radio controls and 16" Gold Diamond-spoke aluminum wheels with 245-50VR16 Goodyear Eagle VR50 tires. This example also came with some optional equipment including T-top roof, dual exhaust, and front license plate bracket.
