A sudden family misfortune has created the unexpected sale of this car. This is a one owner car with low miles which has been garaged its entire life. Owned since new by older, now retired lady that had it properly cared for all these years. The couple also have a collection of classic cars that are also being sold, they're well aware of taking proper care of all their vehicles.
The family has asked me to help them liquidate their collection. I accepted because I believe a fine car sells itself and this is one of those instances. This is one of those cars that particular buyers long for, because the purchase of this car is not a risk. This car is a cream puff that has never known abuse and has been routinely and properly serviced.
A look under the hood reveals a clean stock untouched engine bay housing the 13B fuel injected engine which was recently serviced and received brand new belts. A close inspection of the entire body shows only 1 small door ding, one small 1/2 scratch, a small scrape located forward of the right front wheel (pictured) and a scratch on the front end. There isn't any paint peeling or flaking. The interior, with its blue leather, is in near perfect condition other than the normal time related leather creases and cracks in the bucket seats. There are no cracks in the dash. All electrical systems function perfectly. The car runs as good as it looks with its stock factory alloy wheels. The radial tires show none to very little wear. It steers, corners and tracks great and it brakes smoothly as it should without any disruptions, pulsing, fading or pulling.Potential buyers that are very familiar with these cars may elect stop reading at this point if they wish because they are already aware of its many factory amenities.
For those not familiar with this car's appointments, I'll describe the of many things that make this car so fun to own and drive.....
It is a rear wheel drive, 160 hp, fuel injected engine with dual exhaust that runs on regular fuel. It has the 5 speed manual transmission and a revised rear suspension system that aids in positive cornering. It has only 54,350 miles on the car which was never driven in the rain. It has been kept in a heated and cooled garage. The car does zero to 60 mph in less than 10 seconds. It does the qtr. mile in 17.5 sec and its top speed is 125 mph. It is not a feather weight car that is influenced by passing semi trucks or strong gusts of wind. It is more of a touring car weighing over 3,000 lbs. making it a much more pleasant car especially when used on a daily basis. It is a joy to drive. The car's design mimics the Porche 944 for much less of an investment.
Rack and pinion power steering, 4 wheel power disc brakes with 4 piston calipers on its front 10.9 inch discs.
The water tight body is in excellent condition with its flip up headlights, flow through rear view mirrors and a built in air dam beneath the grill area. It has never been in an accident. It has a trunk as well as 2 locking storage compartments. There is much to be said about the fully automatic hybrid convertible top which is very unique in the industry as there isn't another like it to be found. It was designed with an overhead rigid panel located over the front seat portion of the car. This provides a quieter ride. It can be removed (it stows in the trunk) leaving the rear portion (made of traditional vinyl) intact mimicking an over-sized sunroof effect. The top also has a real glass rear window, not vinyl that cracks and yellows with time. The rear glass window is equipped with a rear window defroster. Raising and lowering the top is simple and quick. As a bonus, when the top is in the down position there is a wind blocking air dam located behind the seats, which Mazda engineers created to combat the annoying air buffeting present in most convertibles. The dam also reduces the noise associated with that buffeting making for a quieter and much more comfortable ride. In addition the dam also keeps the passenger compartment much warmer when using the heater to keep feet and legs warm. Lastly, there is a nice fitted leather boot covering the lowered top to conceal it which easily snaps into place.
The interior is roomy and comfortable with all controls well positioned. The seats and door panels are in near perfect condition. The factory floor mats show a little use, the carpeting throughout is perfect. Everything works as you would expect. It has its stock premium Pioneer stereo system with sound surround and multiple speakers including speakers located in the headrests. The stereo accepts both cassettes and discs. Full instrumentation with gauges not "idiot lights". Other automatic amenities, (apart from the power brakes, steering and convertible top) include power windows, door locks, exterior mirrors and radio antenna. Other included items are air conditioning, cruise control, tachometer, flip up padded arm rest, hand activated park brake, padded steering wheel and a trip odometer. The glove box holds the owner's manual detailing instructions and proper use of every aspect of the car. If this car continues to be babied as it has been and well cared for, it will undoubtedly retain a high resale value far into the future. Mazda sent only 5,000 RX convertibles to the US during the previous year 1988. They've sent even fewer in the following years. As a result these cars will, more than likely, become even more highly sought after as time passes. The small percentage of them in excellent condition, as is this one, will only increase in value.
