1979 Fiat X1/9...NICE LITTLE BABY FERRARI SUMMER TIME AND CONVERTIBLE TIME...THE DRIVING IS EASY.. . The Fiat X1/9 is a two-seater mid-engine sports car. It debuted in November 1972 as a replacement for the rear engine Fiat 850 Spider and was of the first truly affordable mid-engine sports car of its time. Designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972-1982 and subsequently by Gruppo Bertone from 1982 to 1989. Reported numbers vary by source, but about two-thirds of the approximately 160,000 X1/9s produced were sold in the USA. Three generations of the X1/9 were sold in the U.S: 1974 cars, 1975-1978 cars and 1979-1989 cars. There are not many left of these little known 'Baby Ferraris.' This 1979 Fiat X1/9 was totally restored in by our expert Fiat Mechanic in South Florida. We took two Fiat X1/9s (a parts car and a fairly rust free X1/9) to make a beautiful newly restored X1/9. Viewing the pictures you will see that most everything on the car has either been replaced or restored...engine brakes, suspension, tires, carpet, interior, door panels, paint, etc, With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted rear wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 is known for its balanced handling, retractable headlights, lightweight removable (Targa) roof which is stowed under the front bonnet. A rear bonnet is also available to store things. This car was the first Fiat to have been designed from it's conception to meet US safety regulations. This 1979 Fiat X1/9 has a 1498 cc engine with a five-speed manual transmission, with max power up to 67 hp. Not known for power, it's handling more than makes up for it. It will still get you up to 75-80 miles on the highway. It's really, what driving is meant to be! We have owned this car for nearly 4 years. We have another 1976 X1/9 project car and another Fiat to play with. It's time to turn this beauty over to someone else to drive and enjoy. It's not perfect but has a lot going for it!
