OVERVIEW
This 1972 Ford F-100 is the result of the owners dream to own a truck built the way he would have wanted when he got out of high school in 1972. The truck is painted in its original colors and fitted with a 431 -cu.in. stroker V-8 and a four-speed manual and 4 wheel drive. It appears to be a well-built truck inside and out and a great start for the winning bidder.
POWERTRAIN
At the heart of this truck is a 431 -cu.in. FE-block stroker. The list of modifications to the powerplant are extensive and include an Eagle Specialty Products stroker kit, forged steel crank, I-bean rods, roller wrist pins, Mahle dished pistons, a cam, lifters, springs, intake, fuel pump, Edelbrock 650 CFM four-barrel carburetor, new rocker arms and shafts, Sanderson shorty block-hugger headers, an HEI distributor, a high-flow oil and water pump, a Milodon rock crawler 8-quart oil pan, high-torque mini starter, new alternator, Champion three-core aluminum radiator with a Flex-Lite thermostatically controlled fan, and a custom dual exhaust with an X-pipe. The engine is teamed with a New Process 435 wide-ratio four-speed manual (with granny first gear) and a Dana 21 transfer case. The flywheel was resurfaced and the transmission and transfer case were both inspected and resealed, and equipped with an LUK heavy-duty clutch and throw-out bearing.
INTERIOR
This truck has had GEN IV Surfit Vitage Air installed and it blows cold! The seller reports that the metal surfaces inside the truck are original, and there are scratches in the kick panels. The bench seat is reupholstered in black vinyl, which appears to have no condition issues. When the seat was reupholstered, heating elements were installed on both the bottom and the back for the driver and passenger. The door panels are custom made and the original steel ribbed door panels are included in the sale. The instrument panel is loaded with Marshall Red Line LED gauges, including a speedometer with a GPS sender, tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature, voltage and fuel gauges. The original radio was replaced with a RetroSound Hermosa AM/FM digital media player, with Bluetooth connectivity and hands-free calling features. The truck is equipped with JBL GTO speakers including woofers in the doors, tweeters on top of the dash and coaxial in the dash. The headliner and visors are reportedly original to the truck.
EXTERIOR
According to the sellers notes, the truck spent most of its life in dry central North Dakota and was mostly rust-free when he purchased in 2021. He notes that the minimal rust was repaired with new sheet metal and has been repainted in its original Swiss Aqua and Wimbledon White paint scheme. Hes careful to note that this wasnt a frame-off restoration, but that the truck has been carefully refurbished to build a solid driver. The metal floor of the bed was removed and in its place the seller installed a white oak bed floor. The truck was restored with the original set of refurbished Western mirrors. He notes that the right mirror has a gouge in the chrome, and the grille surround has some scratches and scuffs. The front bumper is reportedly original and in good condition, and the rear bumper is a new step bumper with rubber treads and halogen backup lights, which are currently non-functional. The notes state that the glass has no scratches or condition issue.
CHASSIS
The seller has provided a number of photos showing the underside and points out that there is some surface rust underneath, specifically a bit on the body mounts and some on the nuts holding the torsion beams but there appears to be no serious corrosion underneath. The truck also has a new power steering box from a 1975 F-150, with a brand new heavy-duty steering shaft as well as all new ball joints and tie rod ends. The suspension has been updated with new shocks and new track-rod bushings and isolators. The brakes are new, including drums and lines. The truck sites on period-correct Western turbine wheels, shod with Firestone Destination XT tires, sized 33x12.5x15.
